- Peaceful site deep in the Haut-Languedoc Regional Natural Park
- A five minute drive from La Salvetat-sur-Agout and Lac de la Raviège
- Wooden accommodation; optional extras include sauna and breakfast
Take a break under the benevolent auspices of Hestia – Hestia, of course, being the Greek goddess of hospitality – at this well-appointed site in the Haut-Languedoc Regional Natural Park. Les Cabanes d'Hestia's well-made wooden accommodation makes a fine choice for folk seeking forest surrounds, with added watersports at a lake five minutes' drive away.
Comfort is a big deal at this six-hectare site: all the self-contained units at Les Cabanes d'Hestia have a private bathroom, comfy bedding, a kitchen area, a spacious terrace and a private garden with deckchairs for outdoor lounging. Fresh, tasty breakfasts are also available, and Le Préau café serves up homemade cake and hot drinks for when you're peckish at other times of day.
The other big priority is wellbeing: a sauna is available for those who want a bit of spa time to help them take things down a gear or two (although the park's peaceful setting, packed with birds and foliage, should get you off to a good start too). Site-organised yoga is on hand for early morning sun salutations; there's also evening meditation for those that want it. Cars are not allowed on site and are parked a short walk away from the accommodation, leaving uncluttered landscapes for all to admire.
For supermarkets, restaurants, local produce and river views, La Salvetat-sur-Agout is a five-minute drive away.

Local attractions
Setting out on foot is pleasingly easy at this South of France spot: hiking paths and mountain bike trails lead through the forest down towards the village or out on circular jaunts. About five minutes' drive away, meanwhile, Lac de la Raviège has a whole host of nautical activities to try out: waterskiing, boating, paddleboarding and more are on the cards along these shimmering shores, or you could simply lounge on the beach for a couple of hours…
Saint-Pons-de-Thomières (20 minutes) should also be seen for its prehistory museum, while over in Labastide-Rouairoux (35 minutes) there's an intriguing textile centre and ancient neolithic site to explore. While you're down this way, the cool caves at Grotte de la Devèze (30 minutes) deserve a look-in for their delicate geological formations that look like spun glass.
There's no denying that Les Cabanes d'Hestia is a remote spot (it's part of the appeal of the place, after all), but larger towns like Castres (an hour) and Narbonne (an hour and 15 minutes) can also be reached if you miss wandering through city streets.
