Green, well set up for tiddlers and a mere 10 minutes’ walk from la mer and the golden sands and seaside town of Criel-sur-Mer – might it just be the makings of a smashing family sojourn in France’s Seine-Maritime department?
Lots of lush stuff is within easy reach here: highly scenic coastal walks along a trail between Le Tréport and Veulettes-sur-Mer, the cracking chalky cliffs of the Côte d'Albâtre (also a highly important Natura 2000 site), seaside town days, horseback tours, bucolic pedals and sea and river fishing.
Camping Le Mont Joli-Bois is a friendly and family-focused site among lush green grounds in the Normandy region. Only 550 metres from the sea and 15 minutes’ drive from the port town and pebbly beach of Le Tréport, guests have the splendid conundrum of choosing to remain around the restful and lush green grounds or stroll a short way from base to spend their days at the sunbathing and building sandcastles at the beach.
Set across two verily verdant hectares, Joli-Bois has splendiferous sea views from the top of its hill; a sandy play area with a bouncy castle and a trampoline are also around for littlies’ leisure, and a ping pong table and a pétanque pitch are around too for family-friendly fun. In July and August a small snack van sorts on-site vittles, and a small grocery store sells a good variety of traditional regional produce too.

Head to the port town of Le Tréport and take a scenic ride on the funicular from the top of the cliff down to the town via a chalk tunnel, emerging above the pretty seaside settlement’s slate rooftops. From here the forest and 16th-century château of Eu town are also within easy reach.
Camping Le Mont Joli-Bois is also a bonnie base from which to explore several spectacular coastal walking trails through France’s Seine-Maritime department, like the highly scenic route that stretches from Le Tréport to Veulettes-sur-Mer and the spectacular chalky cliffs and Natura 2000 site of the Côte d'Albâtre, 70 kilometres away, via the site’s local seaside town of Criel-sur-Mer, Berneval-le-Grand, Dieppe, Varengeville-sur-Mer, Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer, Veules-les-Roses and Saint-Valery-en-Caux.
Other nearby activities easily accessible to outdoorsy sorts include exploring the Yerres river valley à vélo et à pied, sea and river fishing and horseback hacks from the local equestrian centre. Also splendidly for families, a public pool is close by too.
