Like the sound of pre-erected tents? Nothing to start putting up when you drive at your site? Welcome to Village del Mar, near Solaro in Corsica, where much of the hard work is done for you... so there’s very little to pack up and bring with you. Even better, the site is just a couple of minutes’ walk to sandy Solaro beach, and is backed by the spectacular Aiguilles de Bavella mountains. Accommodation here is in spacious bell tents for up to three guests, with contents including a single and double bed (bring bedding), comfy armchairs, mini fridge and a kettle with breakfast crockery. There’s a fan to keep you all cool during summer months, plus electric power and lighting, and your own private seating area outside the tent – romantic when lit up at night. Also on this beachside site are simple loos and shower blocks with an outside sink, plus a communal dining, living and cooking area set up with fridges, hotplates, a microwave, grill and coffee machine for guests who are self catering – stock up on essentials in Solenzara (five minutes’ drive) supermarkets. If you don’t want to cook for yourselves every night, stroll down to the romantic beach restaurant to dine with sea views, have a couple of drinks at the bar, challenge pals to a game of pool, or simply have a quiet night with a book in the reading corner.

Local attractions

Village del Mar makes a handy base for the climbing trails and treetop rope courses at Forest Adventure Park and Via Ferrata (15 minutes), or you can try your hand at challenging mountain biking and hiking in the Aiguilles de Bavella hills (50 minutes’ drive). If you’d rather do something more sedate, treat the kids to a game at Minigolf Tarco (20 minutes) or play a round at Golf Club de Lezza (50 minutes). Have a go at all sorts of water-based activities, from canyoning at Acqua è Natura Canyoning Parc Aventure and Paintball (five minutes) or Corsica Forest (20 minutes), to scuba-diving and sea-fishing trips from the marina in the seaside village of Solenzara (five minutes’ drive). During the day, Solenzara has a couple of 19th-century churches to potter around as well as sportswear shops and a small, rock-backed beach for swims and sunbathing. The atmosphere ramps up after dark, with lively brasseries and pizzerias around the marina and live music in summer.
