Powered grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Lovely little quiet campsite. Was next to the road but wasn’t that busy and didn’t bother us. Not dangerous as there was a row of bushes in between the site and road but didn’t cut out the sound. Facilities ok but basic. Didn’t realise we had to go to the town centre to check in and get the key. But was only a few minutes drive away. The main attraction is the beautiful vineyard scenery and the talk from the owner about the family champagne business back in the village centre and the tasting was lovely. There was a little play area here too for the kids whilst we sampled the champagne.

Disliked: Our pitch wasn’t very flat. But I think someone else had parked in our spot so this may have not been a problem if we were in the right spot.

Powered grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Back to nature feel

Disliked: Felt description on Pitch up is misleading. The site has gated access with a few cabins and pitches, the site is away from the main town but you will struggle to find location as there are no signs or contact numbers. Sat Nav took us to town which was cut off and thankfully a local helped us. Once we found reception we were givem a key to access the site which was basic but fine. That said there is no chemical toilet so wouldnt want to stay more than an overnight. There is nobody on site and if you want to do some champagne tasting you have to go back into town which is fine if you have a car, but not great if you dont or have mobility issues.

Local attractions

This site makes a great base for exploring the Côte-des-Bar Champagne tourist route, taking in lots of sparkling samples and making your way through lovely landscapes and traditional villages like Bar-sur-Aube and Bar-sur-Seine. The area isn’t all about the wineries though – a short drive of 20 minutes or so from the site gets you to the Forêt d’Orient Regional Natural Park for all sorts of outdoor activities including hikes, birdwatching, golf, lake swimming, canoeing and parachuting. You might also like to climb up into the trees at Grimpobranches (half an hour’s drive), meet native beasts at Space Wildlife Orient Forest (25 minutes) or visit the 18th-century Moulin de Dosches (35 minutes). Elsewhere nearby, you can make trips to the Maison Renoir in Essoyes (25 minutes), the Cistercian Abbey of Clairvaux (20 minutes), the Crystal Museum in Bayel (20 minutes) or the family-friendly Nigloland theme park (10 minutes), for a day of rides and shows.
