  • Small, simple Brittany site 10 minutes’ drive from Vannes
  • Gulf of Morbihan 20 minutes’ drive; Château de Josselin 40 minutes
  • Level pitches; barbecues are welcome on site
If you're in the market for a serene and simple place to stay in the Brittany countryside, take a look at Chez Stéphane. Your host here is indeed the accommodating Stéphane, and you'll be setting up in the large grassy garden that wraps around his home – take your pick from south-facing spots and cooler corners in the shade of ancient oak trees. Wherever you decide to place yourselves, take a moment to enjoy the splendid surroundings of this small-scale site, and prick up your ears: you might be able to detect the calls of pheasants and woodpeckers, plus a joyful morning chorus. When your hosts are at home, you’re welcome to use their modern toilets and bathroom (with shower and bath), perhaps leaving a little tip to show your appreciation. They also give you access to drinking water, electricity and the option to use their washing machine (for an additional fee). Barbecues are allowed on site, and you can gather all the necessary supplies (plus anything else you might need) in Saint-Avé (five minutes' drive) or Vannes (10 minutes). Exploring Vannes is a must while you're here, but handy access to main roads (particularly the nearby N166) means you can also easily get out and about to explore the Brittany countryside and coast, including the fabulous beaches and islands of the Gulf of Morbihan (20 minutes away). There are also lots of lovely walks and cycle rides in the area around the site, so bring your boots and bikes along.

What customers say

This cozy campsite in a private garden is a peaceful escape with a friendly host. Guests love the welcoming vibe, nature, and handy hookups. Vannes is easily accessible. A few found the toilets tricky and pitches uneven, but it's a highly recommended, homey stay with great hospitality.

Primitive grass and gravel campsite

Chacun avait suffisamment d'espace. Salle de bain et toilettes très propre.

From the manager: Merci beaucoup pour ce gentil mot.

Primitive grass and gravel campsite

Liked De locatie

Disliked De composthoop, 1 toilet binnen in zijn huis via rommelige garage. Deze toilet werd ook voor campers gebruikt. 1 douche ook voor meer dan 10 staanplaatsen

Recommend to friends Visit again

Cordialement
Stéphane.

Primitive grass and gravel campsite

From the manager: Thank you for this review.
It was a real pleasure to welcome you in my garden and to talk with you.
You will always be welcome if you come back in Vannes.

(Sorry for the toilets)
Stéphane.

Primitive grass and gravel campsite

Recommend to friends Visit again

Local attractions

You’ll want to start in Vannes (10 minutes' drive), exploring the ancient ramparts, visiting the cathedral and strolling through the cobbled streets among half-timbered houses. Look out for street art too, and treat yourselves to some local produce from one of the markets. After that, catch up on some more of the area's history at the pretty village of Rochefort-en-Terre (half an hour), take in the classic turrets of Château de Josselin (40 minutes) and step much further back in time at the various Neolithic megalith sites around Carnac (half an hour). Kids not really into all the history? They might be after a trip to Parc De Préhistoire De Bretagne (35 minutes)… And of course, you can't come to this area without visiting a beach or few. A couple of highlights are Plage de Mousterian (20 minutes), with its spectacular sunsets, and Plage de Conleau (25 minutes), a shallow artificial basin that’s popular with families. If you’d like to see a bit more, take a boat trip through the islands from Vannes or choose one of the walking/bike trails along this gorgeous bit of coastline.
