  • Stay on a working farm site, 15 minutes’ drive from the Brittany Coast
  • Hikers’ haven: Join the GR 34 long-distance route 15 minutes away
  • Less than an hour from La Récré des 3 Curés, Océanopolis theme parks
Don’t forget to pack your adventurer’s hat before you leave for your hols – at Camping de la Ferme de Croas Men, a family-run site 10 minutes’ drive from Plouigneau in the Finistère department of Brittany, you’re going to need it. Ferme de Croas Men is a prime jumping off point for exploring not just the area around the site, but the entire Brittany coast. Hikers can pick up long-distance walking route GR 34 at Morlaix, 15 minutes from the site, and there are plenty of hiking, biking, riding and climbing routes through the Arrée mountains, 30 minutes away. When you’re in need of some downtime head back to site to chill out in the living room and reading room – there are books, games and colouring to get to – or take a sedate tour of the farm to meet the cows, donkeys, pig, rabbits and hens. You’ll need to preserve your energy for further adventuring and what better way to do so than with a big feed: fire up the barbecue and pile it high with supplies from the small farm shop (don’t forget to pick up some bread and pastries if you’re staying during the high season) or one of the supermarkets in Plouigneau, then chow down in peace. If you fancy a break from cooking, or just want a change of scenery, there are tons of restaurants to try within 15 minutes of Ferme de Croas Men.

Local attractions

Any stay at Camping de la Ferme de Croas Men should start with a trip to the medieval town of Morlaix. Wander its scenic streets (lapping up the stunning architecture of half-timbered houses and the grand piles that line the harbour), make your way to the first level of the truly spectacular viaduct that straddles the town, then plunge back into the maze to head to the Duchess Anne lantern house. While you’re in Morlaix, board a boat for a 15-minute trip to Île de Batz. Disembark here for the exotic Jardin Georges Delasselle and its Bronze Age necropolis, as well as scenic beaches, leisurely coastal walks and the views from the lighthouse. History buffs will want to take in the many châteaux nearby, starting with the Château de Rosanbo (25 minutes) and travelling on to Tonquédec, Kerjean and La Roche Jagu, all less than an hour away. Another must-see is the Cairn de Barnenez – the largest mausoleum in Europe, it also happens to predate the Great Pyramids. Kids who are starting to get bored should be brought neatly back on side with trips to La Récré des 3 Curés and Océanopolis theme parks, both around 50 minutes from Ferme de Croas Men.
