  • Family-friendly lakeside site with activities for all ages
  • Three kilometres from the spectacular 2,500-hectare Loudéac forest
  • Snack bar with terrace, shop, library and excellent playground
Do you like lakes – or perhaps you favour forests? You can plump for both on a French hol if you're staying at Brittany site Camping Seasonova Aquarev: it's set by a small lake (with water toys a few steps away for those of you who need to entertain les enfants), and is a few kilometres from the famed and 2,500-hectare Loudéac forest for days of horseback cantering, leafy hikes and shaded cycling. It's all as active or chilled here as you want it to be (unless there's a need to entertain les enfants): you can get stuck into the sporty activities such as whacking a ball around the tennis court or football pitch, or take a tome from the library to take down to the water for a literary lakeside time. Whichever you pick, some time on the terrace of the snack bar should be a given too, for light bites, ice cream and long leisurely hours with another book or your own thoughts. (Unless, of course, you're entertaining les enfants…) A swish sandy playground is around to also entertain the kids, and shows, tournaments and activities run in July and August for all ages. Off site, Aquarev's Cotes d'Armor setting is a few minutes from the pretty Breton town of Loudéac, a favoured place in times gone past of the esteemed dukes of Rohan; about 45 minutes' drive from the fab seaport of Lorient, and about an hour from Brittany's capital Rennes.

Local attractions

Spectacular Loudéac forest is a vast shaded space of over 2,500 hectares, once part of the Brocéliande forest spanning Brittany. It's now a national forest with almost 50 kilometres of marked paths for hiking, hacking and cycling, and also has a fishing centre, plenty of ponds, and play and picnic areas. A horse riding centre is nearby. Loudéac town is well worth a day or two too – not least if you're a horsey type as this is a full-on equestrian town, with five famed race meets every Easter at the Calouët Hippodrome, and the La Fête du Cheval horse festival in each August. A big water centre with pool, waterslide, geysers, fountains, a Jacuzzi and a spa bath can be splashed or slid around in at Les Aquatides swimming centre. Day trip destinations include the medieval village of Moncontour, half an hour's drive to the north; the 19th-century Trappist abbey of Timadeuc, splendidly set 20 minutes away in green surroundings on the Nantes-Brest Canal, and the medieval fortress town, castle and doll museum of Josselin, still home to the Rohan family descendants.
