  • Fully-equipped site in the Burgundy wine region
  • On the shores of the Yonne river
  • More than 60km of biking trails nearby
Guaranteed to make you merry… Burgundy's Camping Merry-sur-Yonne is in smashingly colourful setting on the banks of the Yonne river, in a lush land of flower-filled fields, windmills, long bike rides, fishing, hundreds of kilometres' worth of Yonne sailing, and the plush landscapes of the Burgundy vineyards: have a holiday here to be well chuffed with your lot. The campsite is set in a bend of the Yonne, with designated strolling paths and marked cycle routes (bike hire is available if you haven't brought your own). Its facilities are well set up to see you sorted for days staying on site: there's a restaurant with three-course daily menus, a café, a bar with local beers, and an on-site shop selling local produce. Camping Merry-sur-Yonne also has a luxury toilet block with unlimited water for hot showers as well as swish handmade artisan baths; two tennis courts, and a kids' play zone with swings, slides, and climbing. Parents can sink into the shade of the trees and umbrellas outside the café to keep an eye on the kids over the cocktail of the day or a tasty snack: that might make things somewhat merry too.

From the South via the A6 motorway Stay on the D951 (signposted Vézelay) for 3.5 km and DO NOT take the right turn onto the D206 for Blannay. Instead turn right onto the D21 for Montillot, join the D100 in Châtel-Censoir and follow the road to Merry-sur-Yonne.

Local attractions

With luck you'll have booked a couple of weeks, as there's heaps to see and do around Camping Merry-sur-Yonne to attend to all tastes. A horse riding centre, fishing spots and watersports are all nearby if you're feeling active, along with a golf course about half an hour away. The 62-kilometre bike trail near the site runs mostly along the Nivernais canal with only a few hills, so is sorted for family bike rides. A must in the region is the Yonne Vineyards Trail, meandering through the countryside that produces some of the best known Burgundy wines, like famed Chablis and its neighbours in the Auxerrois and Tonnerrois regions, as well the slightly further afield vineyards of Joigny to the north and Vézelay to the south.

What customers say

This peaceful rural campsite has a well-stocked shop and a highly praised restaurant. Guests enjoyed spacious pitches, beautiful surroundings, and nearby bike routes. While some facilities are a bit dated and access can occasionally be tricky, friendly service and an excellent overall experience generally outweigh these minor issues. Management is responsive to feedback.

Powered cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked Amazing site in most beautiful surroundings. All facilities superb and very clean. Great shop which had everything you could want or need. Restaurant was fantastic, food was exceptional and the service by Zach and David was superb and so friendly. It was our favourite stop from so many on our way to and from Greece. Would definitely return!.

Disliked Having only enough time for 1 night here.

From the manager: Hi Robert, we’re glad you found our little piece of heaven in rural France. It is worth the journey, yes. The area is beautiful no matter what time of the year. The roads can be, very occasionally, narrow, if you go the wrong route. We have hundreds and hundreds of competent drivers who happily navigate those roads without complaint, so I’m sorry you personally felt it somewhat overwhelming for you. Maybe in the future read the directions better in advance instead of blindly following a GPS…..

I am, however, quite saddened by your other comments and review.

Firstly, you booking and paying 26 instead of 15 is not my error, that is yours. I can not do anything about your error. It’s different companies. PitchUp and ACSI ARE DIFFERENT BUSINESSES. You want the discount that ASCI offers then don’t book through a different business.

Secondly, your personal comment that there are codes everywhere and it is complicated is a lie. There are only two codes … one for the sanitary block and one for the elsan which are the SAME code. Thats it. Also, the code to the sanitary block is open 90 percent of the time anyway as hundreds of previous customers will agree.

Liked Small campsite with natural feel - lots of trees. Great shop and can order bread and pastries. Good restaurant. Friendly staff. Hot showers with normal taps. Toilets with seats. Pretty location with good walks and cycle routes nearby.

Disliked Hookups were a long distance from pitches.

From the manager: Hi, great review. Thank you.

Just a little note… when booking in we do advise guests to make sure they have cable long enough to reach electrical outlets.

Guests are allowed to choose wherever they like. Generally half the pitches need a ten foot cable, the rest up to a 20 foot cable and if you ask any of our lovely staff we can and will happily supply you with an extension so you can reach your desired spot.

Safe and happy camping. Love from Merry Camping.
