  • Quiet, well-maintained Burgundy site looking over Lac de Pannecière
  • In the Morvan Regional Natural Park, a half-hour drive from Bibracte
  • Kayaks, paddleboards and electric bikes for hire; bar on site
There are all sorts of outdoor activities to fill your days with around the Morvan Regional Natural Park – this part of the world is packed with places to go hiking, biking, horse riding and canoeing among spectacular scenery. All of this becomes even more enticing when you’re staying at Camping Les Soulins, as this Burgundy site three kilometres from Corancy looks out over Lac de Pannecière and has access to a lake beach where you can cool off after a day of action. There are also plenty of cool spots to relax in at this quiet and well-maintained site – pitches are shaded by trees and have space to hang hammocks or spread your meals out on picnic tables. You may also want to reward your active efforts with a craft beer from the bar, or something to eat from the snack bar (open in July and August) before settling in to listen to one of the live music sessions that run throughout the summer. For other eats, there’s a bread service and a grocery store that stocks local products. When it’s time to get moving again, there are hiking maps on site, and you can organise kayak and paddleboard rental. Electric bikes are also available to rent (these may be handy for getting up some of the hills in the surrounding area more easily…)

Power optional cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked: Nice camp site with large shaded pitches. Electric and water close by all pitches. Nice area with lots to do close by, plenty of lakes for dogs to keep cool.

Disliked: Toilets a bit dated but clean and functional.

Power optional cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked: Small campsite right on the river. Friendly staff member at reception who spoke English. There is a small shop but no restaurant or fresh bread delivery. Toilets & showers basic but clean with soap & toilet paper provided. Our motorhome was pitched right by the river, where you can swim in. Vey peaceful & quiet.

Disliked: No restaurant or fresh bread available daily.

Local attractions

The Morvan Regional Natural Park is a great place to spend a holiday if you’re keen on outdoor activities – there are plenty of hiking trails around, along with lakes for watersports and fishing and places to find other activities like horse riding (the nearest horse riding centre being about 15 minutes’ drive away). Those electric bikes you can hire on site also make a good way to explore the local area – but if you don’t fancy that, you can pedal your way along an old railway line through the woods at Vélorail du Bazois-Morvan (10 minutes’ drive). If you need a little break from all the full-on activity, perhaps you’d like to take a stroll around the ancient Roman site at Bibracte (half an hour), through the flower-filled fields at Safran du Nivernais Morvan (35 minutes) or around the attractive displays at Château-Chinon Costume Museum (10 minutes).
