It's free, quick and easy!
- Spacious site on the edge of Laruns, with stunning mountain views
- Near lots of outdoor activities; five minutes' drive from thermal spas
- Heated pool, hot tub, playground, bar and snack bar on site
Holiday dilemma: you’re off to the Pyrénées-Atlantiques and you want to surround yourself with gorgeous mountain views, but at the same time you don’t want to give up the convenience of being able to source food and activities easily.
Holiday solution: book a stay at Camping du Valentin, just on the edge of the village of Laruns, in the spectacular Ossau Valley. This nifty location is spread over four hectares with excellent views of the peaks all around, and good access to trails for hikes and bike rides. And access to the village is equally straightforward – a footpath will get you down there in about 15 minutes for shops, restaurants and outdoor activity providers.
Valentin’s owners Stéphanie and Bertrand have done their best to make sure that life is easy on site too: lots of handy things have been set up here, including free wifi, a bread delivery service and three bathroom blocks (fully enclosed so they’re comfy in all weathers). A snack bar and bar are on hand to provide your pre-outing breakfasts and a cool beer or two when you get back from a long hike.
They’ve also got things sorted for folk who’d like to spend a bit more time relaxing on site: there’s a heated pool here along with a hot tub (both open in the summer months), a pétanque court and a playground.

Local attractions
There are plenty of places to get out for a hike or a mountain bike ride around here – but if you fancy something a bit different on the activity front, head into the village to talk to the experts there about days of canyoning, ziplining and horse riding. Canoeing and fishing days can be had on the Gave d’Ossau river, which runs through the village, and there’s a treetop course to tackle at La Forêt Suspendue, five minutes’ drive away.
If that all sounds a bit much, or you’ve overdone it a little, it’s handy to know this is an area of thermal spas to soothe your aches and pains. Find the nearest in Laruns, or set off for Eaux-Chaudes or Eaux-Bonnes, both of which are a few minutes’ drive away.
For more ways to get a taste of the area, take a ride on the Petit train d’Artouste (an hour’s drive), see the big birds at the Vulture Cliff (10 minutes) or the Green Mountain Honey Farm (10 minutes). If you’ve got the kids on board, perhaps schedule a stop at Asson Zoo (half an hour) as well to meet the exotic animals there.
