  • Peaceful adults-only luxury site in scenic Lot-et-Garonne
  • Five minutes’ drive from Eymet bastide town, 35 mins from Bergerac
  • Heated pool, local produce sales and regular group dinners for guests
Settle in for les hols at Camping Moulin Brûlé, an adults-only site five minutes’ drive from the pretty Lot-et-Garonne bastide town of Eymet. Run by Gary and Heather, the site is peaceful and friendly, and there’s lots to do to maximise unwinding time. On arrival, spend a few hours by the heated pool, lazing on the sun loungers, staying cool beneath the parasols and taking refreshing dips when needed – and calling to the poolside honesty bar if warm weather requires cold drinks or ice cream. Escape the sun with woodland strolls or by claiming a spot to read in one of the swing chairs under the shade of trees. Gourmands will be well catered for here: days start off well with fresh bread, croissants and eggs delivered right to the door, and continue tastily with evening paella or curry cooked up for the guests by Gary. Fancy snacks or some local eats to take home? Heather makes conserves from the fig and plum trees on site, as well as from other fresh local fruit. For those keen to venture out, spend a few minutes in reception to pick up brochures, maps and vineyard info. Or pick Heather and Gary’s brains on where to go, then leave the car behind – there are electric bikes for hire on site, making light work of exploring the hilly countryside.

Local attractions

If days of good food were the big draw here, there’s lots within easy reach to entice palates… Within 10 minutes’ drive, the towns of Lauzun, Eymet, Miramont-de-Guyenne and Sauvetot-du-Dropt all host soirées gourmandes – evenings (during high season) full of local cuisine, craft sales and dancing in village squares – as does Duras (20 minutes away). No need to wait for high season to visit Eymet (though that is when the night markets start): the bastide town is full of medieval buildings and streets, bars, restaurants and shops, and there are weekly farmers markets and craft markets. When busier urban days appeal, Bergerac, a little over half an hour from base, is a must-visit for its tobacco and wine museums (and wine cellars), its pretty half-timbered Old Town and pamper days at its Turkish hammam, as well as barque (barge) trips along the Dordogne. For kid-friendly antics, start 15 minutes away at Mescoules zoo, or 20 minutes from base exploring towers and turrets, taking part in medieval activities and following themed adventure trails at Château de Bridoire. From there, zoom along to Saint-Laurent-des-Vignes (25 minutes from the site) where there’s go-karting and a waterpark to pass the days.
