- Peaceful Dordogne site over five hectares of green and wooded space
- A 10-minute drive to Eymet and 30 minutes to Bergerac
- Heated pool, playground, bar, grocery shop and fishing lake
If one was to distill everything France has to offer, from hilltop villages to grand châteaux, winding rivers to fine wines… one would come up with somewhere very like the Dordogne.
And one might come up with something very like Les Chalets de Dordogne, a peaceful, woodland corner of this splendid region, covering over five hectares of green space and lake views in the south of Bergerac. This is a mightily comfortable spot, with a heated outdoor pool, a playground for the kids to charge about in, and a fishing lake for catching dinner… just Bergerac bliss.
The site's blissfully well placed too: a 10-minute drive away, the much-visited medieval village of Eymet has modern things like bars and eats and bakeries, alongside a typical fortified bastide style favoured by 13th-century town planners, back when everyone wanted a piece of the Dordogne… and jolly sensible of them too.
It's also only half an hour’s drive from here to Bergerac, a handsome and famed old city on the Dordogne river. It’s a place of half-timbered buildings and broad flower-filled squares, so proud of the local tobacco and wine industries that it’s devoted two museums to them.
The covered market is a must for gastronomes and delicacy hunters, and all around the town you’ll be tempted into cellars to sample the many very fine local vinos; sweet-toothed sorts should try pairing a glass of Montbazillac with a bowl of strawberries...

Local attractions
Bergerac is an excellent base to explore the Dordogne by water: traditional barge trips leave on long leisurely cruises to deeply Dordognais spots like Beynac and La Roque Gageac, gliding past châteaux and vineyards and ancient villages all the way.
Closer to the site, the château at Bridoire (20 minutes) is a castle of turrets and towers, where you can try your hand at dozens of medieval activities and follow themed adventure trails through the surrounding parkland… even the kids should clamour to come back here.
For more modern sorts of frolicking, there’s go-karting and an aquapark at St. Laurent-des-Vignes, just outside Bergerac (25 minutes). The latter has a Turkish hammam to soak and steam in, for those less partial to the splashing and sliding side of things.
For the riding side of things, the countryside between the site and Montbazillac is bursting with equestrian centres with treks and rambles for first timers and veteran horse whisperers alike. The zoo at Mescoules (15 minutes) has a different style of animal encounter: instead of fluffy pandas and cheeky monkeys, it’s devoted mainly to the beasts with bad reputations, like alligators, pythons and cobras.
