  • Family-friendly site near the banks of the Dore river
  • Five minutes' drive from Siorac-en-Périgord and the Maxange caves
  • Outdoor pool, shop, pétanque court, bike hire and TV/games room
What a splendid setting. Le Domaine de Pécany is a family-friendly site near the banks of the Dore river, five minutes' drive from the village of Le Buisson-de-Cadouin and within easy reach of the castles, prehistoric sites and medieval villages of the Périgord Noir as well as the vineyards of the Périgord Pourpre: you'd best get prepped to get busy. You'll be within niftily easy reach of the splendidly scenic Dordogne river from here too (fishing, canoeing and waterside wanders ahoy), and about five minutes' drive from the spectacular Maxange caves, only discovered in the year 2000 but already famed as a top (bottom?) spot for subterranean adventures. And speaking of famed spots, the UNESCO World Heritage Site and hugely acclaimed Les Eyzies-de-Tayac-Sireuil is within 25 minutes' drive. Facilities on site include an outdoor pool, a pétanque court and bike hire to cover leisure and active times outdoors, and a TV and games room for hours undercover. Free wifi is also available.

Local attractions

Stay close to base or roam far afield: loads of leisurely pursuits are available either way. Especially ancient sites and ancient art: local commune Le Buisson-de-Cadouin sitting pretty on the left bank of the Dordogne is home to Cussac cave (10 minutes' drive) and its 150+ Paleolithic works dating back at least 25,000 years. Also within 10 minutes are the Maxange caves and their stalactites, stalagmites and horizontal helictites, and it's well worth (read: a must) the 45-minute drive to see the 600 paintings of the Lascaux cave replica, one of the most famed and visited in France. Famed cities are fully covered too with Sarlat-la-Canéda within 35 minutes and Bergerac within 50. Closer to home, have a day in Limeuil 10 minutes' drive away, for a spectacular medieval setting at the confluence of the Dordogne and Vézère rivers. There's thick woodland to wander in its surrounding hills too: look out around this last for the stone terraces that used to be swathed in vineyards.
