Gorgeous views come as standard for the guests at Le Jardin de Lyno – this Dordogne site is, after all, on the edge of Belvès, a pretty place that's earned itself a spot among the list of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France. The village centre is about 10 minutes' walk away, but in fact you don’t have to go that far to start admire the scenery, as this five-acre estate has some fabulously green landscapes all around – so you can simply lounge in a deckchair to take it all in, take a wander around the gardens to see it from all angles or perhaps soak up some scenery while having a swim in the on-site outdoor pool. Being on the edge of the village also means that lots of handy things are on hand, including shops and places to eat. There are free-access tennis courts a few minutes' walk away too, and the village is gateway to several hiking, horse riding and mountain biking trails as well as having its own attractions in its medieval buildings and troglodyte dwellings. Golf, canoeing and wild swimming are among the other activities nearby, and of course this area is packed with châteaux and other historic sites to visit. As for your own accommodation, you'll be staying at a well-equipped glamping unit with an ensuite bathroom and its own small kitchen. Heating and wifi access are also part of the setup, and bed linen and towels are provided to help keep your packing list light.

Local attractions

A wander around Belvès should be first on your list of things to do – it's a lovely little village with a classic square at its centre and a well-preserved 15th-century covered market hall. And there's more… because you can also visit the troglodyte dwellings under the town to see a very different take on simple accommodation. After that, you may like to see some more of your surroundings by paddling a canoe along the Dordogne from Siorac-en-Périgord (10 minutes’ drive), playing golf at one of the local courses (two within 10 minutes) or swinging through the trees at AirParc Périgord (20 minutes). There are also swimming beaches in Siorac-en-Périgord and Coux-et-Bigaroque (10 minutes). A château visit or few should be part of your plans too – perhaps to Josephine Baker’s former home Château des Milandes (20 minutes) or Castelnaud-la-Chapelle (25 minutes), housing a collection of historic weapons. For more fabulous views, head to the villages of Les Eyzies and La Roque-Gageac (both half an hour) or stroll around the Marqueyssac gardens (25 minutes). The Lascaux caves are 50 minutes away for a dip into prehistory.
