- Basic camping on an organic farm five minutes’ drive from Gornji Karin
- Karin Donji Beach five minutes’ drive; Zadar 40 minutes
- Animals on site; outdoor dining area with spectacular coastal views
Families, bikers, group of friends, naturists … you’re all welcome to embrace your inner farmer at OPG Way, a simple campsite on an organic farm five minutes’ uphill drive from the seaside resort of Gornji Karin on Zadarska Županija’s Dalmatian coastline.
With spectacular vistas back down to the waters of Karinsko more, this is a scenic and peaceful spot to hang out for a few days, drifting from viewpoint to viewpoint around the farm and surrounding olive groves. Friendly dogs, donkeys and cats will make a beeline for you wherever you wander, waiting for treats and lots of fuss.
You’re welcome to cook on the barbecue and eat in the covered dining area, from where you get the best views across untamed countryside to the sea. Should you not fancy cooking al fresco, make for the pizzerias and ‘konoba’ restaurants down in Gornji Karin.
This is pretty much a wild camping sort of place, but handily there are some creature comforts in the shape of outdoor shower, toilets and a covered washing-up area. Solar-powered electricity is also available to charge devices and boil water (there’s no drinking-water tap on site).

Local attractions
If you’re keen for a family dip in the sea, there are several lovely beach areas around Gornji Karin and neighbouring Donji Karin – all with calm waters for toddlers to paddle or swim in, and shade from the surrounding pine forests or palm trees. If the kids get bored of the water, you can treat them to dodgem car rides at Barbi Luna Park nearby.
If you’d rather stay inland, go wild swimming on the Karišnica River (40 minutes’ walk). For more strenuous pastimes, book canyoning or whitewater-rafting escapades on the Zrmanja River (half an hour’s drive), while novices can take kayaking lessons in slower water.
The gorgeous seaside town of Zadar (40 minutes) beckons for a day of urban sightseeing. First stop could be the Ancient Roman displays at the Archaeological Museum, or the interactive holograms at the Museum of Illusions, which should keep kids happily occupied. Try to get to the magical ‘Sea Organ’ and ‘Greeting To The Sun’ installations on the promenade at nightfall to see the magical light show.
