  • Within easy cycling distance of the centre of Berndorf
  • Less than an hour from the historic attractions of Vienna
It's Africa... in Austria. Seecamping Masai Mara on the edge of the Wienerwald forest is run by a family into all things African, so you'll see continental touches all around this peaceful place: see how many you can spy on your travels around the grounds. Alongside the African influence, Masai Mara is a lush and lovely site, set next to a lake in green surroundings with no traffic noise (all the better to imagine you're on safari). There's loads to do around the grounds and in the local area: fishing in the lake should keep you occupied for contemplative hours; tennis courts are a short walk away; golf courses and hiking trails are within a few kilometres, and you can hire a bike on site to pedal off to the town centre of Berndorf, two kilometres away. Spend some time too just roaming around the grounds, ambling past the resident chickens and quacking hi to the ducks, or finding your own peaceful place to serenely surf using the free wifi. There's a fairly stunning lakeside terrace too for yet more contemplative times. Restaurants and shops aplenty are close by in Berndorf; for many more as well as spectacular sightseeing days, Vienna is around 30 kilometres to the south and easily reachable by bus from town.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: Nothing

Disliked: Campsite small more like an aire than a campsite. Pitches very narrow unable to pull awnings fully out . We couldn’t open our windows as we were so close to heavy smokers. A caravan parked in front of us it was so tight he didn’t put his steadies down as we would have had to put our awning in to allow him access. We booked 4 nights but only stayed 1 charged for 4 (in cash)plus tourist tax although we left Austria the next day. Campsite very jaded and needs upgraded although the toilet facilities were good and very clean. They have offered to pay us our overpayment of tourist tax but as we were told they only deal in cash not sure this is possible.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: This was such a cool campsite! It's just a shame we didn't have longer to spend there! The kids absolutely loved the lake - they swam and borrowed canoes and a pedalo! The little tent field was fine, with trees for shade. The couple who run the campsite were so lovely and welcoming, speaking great English when we needed it. They bake fresh brötchen and croissants as soon as you order them. The showers and toilets were spotless. We made use of the washing machine too. We drove to a station (free parking) and got the train to Vienna (which took around 35mins). The stars at night were so bright!

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: A unique campsite with an African theme. The owner spoke great English and was super friendly. It was very clean and quiet. Good facilities - we only used shower, toilets and washing up facilities but it was all fantastic. Regarding location, we stayed for the night before heading home so we didn't really explore but it was about an hour outside of Vienna so very easy to get to.

Disliked: No faults

Liked: Wonderful host. We lost the axle of the jockey wheel and when we asked him where we could get it repaired, he offered to fix it. Beautifully done and he refused payment. We are immensely grateful. The campsite is fun with all kinds of African themed art work. Lots of things to do for children which was all free.
