  • Communal kitchen and dining area; five minutes’ drive to shops
Looking to park up and rest securely close to Brisbane? Head straight for El Encanto, an adults-only location with handy facilities for motorhome, campervan and bus travellers in a quiet industrial zone (please note that no kids are allowed as this is an active industrial site). Powered parking at this Queensland location is on flat bitumen hardstanding, and your gear is kept safe thanks to 24/7 CCTV cameras, automatic night lights and a locked gate with code access. Those aforementioned handy facilities include (very cool and stylish) showers, a washing machine and clothes dryer with free laundry detergent, and a shared full kitchen with hobs, grills, microwaves, a dishwasher, ice machine, freezers for food storage and cooking implements. There’s a spacious, bright and breezy dining and entertainment complex with cosy seating and eating areas, as well as a TV with 15 free channels, and – just when you thought things couldn’t get much better – you’re invited to help yourselves to free drinks from the fridge. Anything else you need? Supermarkets, pubs, an off-licence, takeaways and cafés are all within five minutes’ drive.

Local attractions

Keen to get some exercise in? El Encanto is close to Toohey Forest Park (25 minutes’ walk), where you can hike up to Sandstone Lookout or Apollo’s Aspect for glimpses over Brisbane, looking out for kookaburras as you climb. There are also spectacular views of the city from Mount Gravatt Lookout in Mount Gravatt Conservation Reserve (10 minutes’ drive). Head to artificial Streets Beach for sunning on the sand, and for more cultural pursuits check out the inspiring art in Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art (both 15 minutes). Dine on the side of Brisbane River at Howard Smith Wharves (20 minutes), or take the lift up Wilson Outlook Reserve (15 minutes) to see the sun set over the ocean. If you fancy a bit of island-hopping, get the ferry from Toondah Harbour (half an hour) to North Stradbroke Island to have a swim from Cylinder Beach, encounter koalas and kangaroos (the latter sometimes on the beach), or spy whales passing by between May and October.
