16-amp Rhosson Field powered grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Spacious pitches, hot showers, bar and pizza in the courtyard, friendly staff, quiet location, cleanliness.

Disliked: Several dogs off lead, a couple with with no owners in sight. A dalmatian in particular was crapping wherever it wanted and bothering other campers and their tethered dogs on their pitches.

Beach Field primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Fantastic views from the Beach Field, absolutely love it here, it’s our happy place! Love having access to the beach from the campsite. The courtyard with shop, little cafe, bar and pizza place is so handy. Will be back again next year. Appreciated the lower sinks for the children and the accessible shower/baby change really helped when needing to clean up the little one. Children loved being wild and free in the big field, lots of space.

Disliked: So windy! But worth it for the views and the kids got to fly their kite

Rhosson Field primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked: The facilities were clean.

Disliked: I was on holiday with my 80 year old mate who wanted electric hook up whilst I did not. I was not allowed to pitch next to him unless I paid for electricity I wasn’t going to use and wasn’t able to use as I don’t have a plug, cable or appliances in my tent. They said they knew the pitch wasn’t going to be wanted by anyone else but they didn’t want to risk me connecting up and stealing the electricity. There were just me, my mate and two others in a vast field. I had to pitch about 200 metres away which changed our experience of going on holiday together. I paid £99 for three nights and wasn’t trusted not to steal electricity. I’m a retired teacher and don’t steal as I’m sure is true of 99% of their customers.

From the manager: Hi James, This review has come as a surprise to us, as you were so understanding at the time! You requested to move from a non-electric pitch to a 16amp motorhome and tourer pitch. We usually don't allow tents on them, but Liv was making an exception. These pitches come with an extra charge for the hookup. Unfortunately, we have had issues with people hooking up to electricity, so it's now our policy to charge the extra for the pitch itself. When this was explained to you, you said you understood, and opted to remain on the pitch you booked originally. I hope you still managed to enjoy your stay. Sarah Bookings Manager

Local attractions

This is heaven for beach buffs: Porthsele and Whitesands beaches are both within walking distance of Pencarnan. At Porthsele, take your pick from kayaking, surfing and paddleboarding from its sandy shore; if fishing's more your bag you can fish for mackerel, pollock and seabass from the beach and from certain points on the cliff around Pencarnan's land. There are also a few marked climbing spots around the cliffs on the land and some good entry points for coasteering or a coastal swim back to Porthsele beach… followed back at base with a sunset beach fire or barbecue to end the day. The famed surfing centre of Whitesands, a mile away on the coast path from Pencarnan, has a café, deckchairs and wetsuit hire, plus lifeguards in the summer months. Heading south, St Justinian’s (under a mile away along the coast path) is home to RNLI St Davids Lifeboat Station and a departure point for boat trips around, onto and beyond Ramsey Island to spy seals, seabirds, porpoises, whales, dolphins and sharks. Make time too for a trip to the tiny city of St Davids, to browse its shops and galleries and take a look at sixth-century St Davids Cathedral.
