Spacious field

  • Peaceful family-friendly site in scenic Carmarthenshire countryside
  • Five minutes’ drive from Llandeilo and 45 minutes from Swansea
  • A 10-minute drive to Brecon Beacons, an hour to Oakwood and Folly Farm
Excellent hols await at Brynhyfryd Farm, a family-friendly site just outside the rural town of Llandeilo in Carmarthenshire: the site owners take pride in and pleasure in running and maintaining their park and amenities, to keep everything clean and tidy throughout so that guests have the best possible stay. This is a top spot for peaceful getaways: the site’s been kept small and guest numbers are restricted, so there’s no fighting with the neighbour about awnings and no struggling to find a patch of grass to unwind on – just lots of green space to spread out in. That’s good news for the dog too, as there’s plenty of room for naps (and an adjacent field is well placed for walkies). It’s not just the four-legged variety that are in easy reach for walkies: the site is sirrounded by hills and fields, the Brecon Beacons National Park is less than 10 minutes from base for hiking (and biking and trekking) trails, and the Dark Sky Reserve makes night wanders particularly spectacular. For further-flung adventures, join the 177-mile Offa’s Dyke Path a little over an hour away in Hay-on-Wye – it might just be an Offa you can’t refuse… If a lazy day is needed, stick closer to base with an easy 20-minute stroll into Llandeilo, home to the spectacular National Trust property of Dinefwr, with Dinefwr Castle and Newton House – one of the most haunted houses in Wales – there to explore. There are a couple of pubs in Llandeilo serving food too, so nip in on the way back to the site for a quick (or leisurely) bite.

Liked: Everything you need is there, the site is peaceful (except for a noisy owl!), the pitch was level and hard standing. I would definitely stay here again. The shower was a futuristic electric one. No pressing buttons to keep it going. Everything was very clean. There's a nearby National Trust property that's also well worth the visit whilst in the area.

Liked: plenty of pitch options as we were the only ones there

Disliked: household dustbin used for dog waste was full to the brim can only imagine the last time it was emptied. Showers were very basic along with the toilets doors wouldnt shut properly and walls made out of stirling board . waste point had a plastic manhole cover on it that you lifted using a screw that had been drilled in the top very dirty. we didnt see anyone from the camp site the whole time we was there 5 days . You just rock up pitch where you want and thats it your on your own. Considering they charge extra for awning and dog i expected a bit more to be honest.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Well laid out site and fantastic toilet block. Very friendly hosts

Disliked: Nothing! We were unlucky to arrive a day after torrential rain so ground was very wet but soon drained (we were in a tent)

Disliked: Misleading information on Pitchup re campsite location, resulting in travelling through narrow lanes to one of the entrances, when a direct route on main roads brought us to an accessible entry to site.

Local attractions

Carmarthenshire is a particularly scenic part of Wales, with busy market towns, high mountains, scenic valleys and – of course – serene beaches to entice. Maybe hols aren’t complete without a day of sea and sandcastles? Luckily, Llansteffan beach is a 40-minute drive from base and the Langland Bay beaches are within an hour. This is a prime spot for history buffs: as well as Dinefwr, the site is within easy reach of the ruins of Dryslwyn Castle and Talley Abbey (10 minutes), the castle and gardens at Carreg Cennen (15 minutes), and the Roman and Victorian gold mines of Dolaucothi (20 minutes). And if that’s tantalised taste buds for more below-ground adventuring, the National Showcaves Centre is 50 minutes away. Those who prefer to stay in the fresh air might be keen to take a turn around the fab Aberglasney Gardens (five minutes from the site) – made famous by the BBC’s A Garden Lost in Time – or to pay a visit to the National Botanic Gardens of Wales, 20 minutes from base. All too sedate? Oakwood Theme Park is less than an hour away if hair-raising rides more appeal…
