  • Cosy adults-only site with mountain views in the Brecon Beacons
  • Just off the A4069, 25 minutes’ drive from Dinefwr and Llandeilo
  • In a Dark Sky Reserve with firepits provided; café-bar on site
If the thought of a break within driving distance of waterfalls, castles and gold mines makes you go starry-eyed, Cosmos Camping might be your missing jigsaw piece. This cosy over-16s-only site is just the place to rocket into the Brecon Beacons National Park. It's just off the epic A4069 (packed with dramatic climbs and mountain views), 25 minutes’ drive from Dinefwr and 35 minutes from the National Showcaves Centre for Wales. You’ll really get to look to the cosmos here too, as Alex and Bob (the new owners) have named the site for its location in a Dark Sky Reserve. Each pitch has a firepit (with logs available to buy on site) where you can keep warm while you catch the constellations, Milky Way and nebulas (when skies are clear). With views over the Black Mountains, it’s no surprise that walks are the real deal around here – and your dog can come too, as they’re permitted under close control (due to livestock). If that feels too strenuous, the pond and river are top picnic spots to watch wildlife in action – perhaps red kites overhead or bats in the wooded area at sunset. Come mealtimes, you’ll have use of the site’s communal kitchen facilities, including dishwashing sinks, hot water, a microwave, kettle, fridge-freezer, drying rack, 10-port USB charging station and emergency tea, coffee, sugar and milk. There is also a café-bar on site. The bathroom has hand sanitisers, flushing toilets and two shower rooms with hot electric showers and sinks. It’s tents only on the spaced-out pitches, but there’s a car park at the base of the field and garden trolleys for transporting your gear.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: What a lovely site. Alex and Bob were very welcoming and friendly. A small site with stunning views of the Black mountains, very quiet and peaceful. A haven for star gazers. Large pitches with fire pits included. Lovely clean facilities, showers, toilets and a communal kitchen with fridge/freezer and microwave. Bar on site serving teas, coffees, alcohol, very reasonable priced, open 9-9 each day. Info on local attractions, places to eat and things to do.

Disliked: Nothing

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Lovely small campsite in a beautiful part of the world! Our hosts were lovely and welcoming. Generous sized pitch which fit our large tent. Great kitchen and bathroom facilities which were all very clean. The horsebox bar was a really nice touch for both early morning and evening drinks. Spent quite a few mornings watching red kites whilst sat in our camping chairs with a cup of tea. We hope to visit again as there's still so much we'd like to do in the area and we were really impressed by the campsite.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Alex and Bob are amazing. They're so helpful and available, making this stay so much more enjoyable. The campsite is just beautiful, tucked away and next to a farm with sheep. The scenery is lovely and all guests are very respecting of each other's privacy. The wooden bathroom/shower facilities are excellent, with individual locked cubicles. Kitchen area with big fridge/freezer and complimentary tea, coffee and sugar is available. They also now run a bar which is great if you want a drink in the eve or even during the day. You've got a firepit setup on each pit so you can have your fire at night and also get your barbeque going. WiFi is not really existent at the pitches (reception in general is very poor) but we've seen that as a break away from life. We cannot fault the campsite and will definitely come back.

Disliked: There is truly nothing we disliked.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Everything! The facilities felt more like an actual bathroom rather than the traditional camping shower block. The staff were friendly and accommodating and the pitch was a decent size, nicely separated from the nearby pitches with a wild meadow border. It was very peaceful with beautiful views of the mountain and the addition of the firepit made it extra special. I couldn't leave a review without mentioning the horsebox bar (!!) which by day turned into a lovely spot to get a morning coffee. Will 100% be returning to this magical spot.
