  • Family-friendly site 10 minutes’ drive from lengthy Pendine Sands
  • Oakwood Theme Park and Folly Farm within 40 minutes
  • A five-minute drive from Laugharne
Sweeping green fields, lengthy stretches of sand and wild coastal walks… If that unleashes your inner poet, get inspired at Nine Acres Camping Caravan Park, a family-friendly site five minutes’ drive from Laugharne in Carmarthenshire. Dylan Thomas called Laugharne the strangest town in Wales, but that didn’t stop him putting down roots there and it certainly shouldn’t stop you visiting… Clamber around the ruins of 13th-century Laugharne Castle before following the Dylan Thomas Mile out to his Boathouse on the stunning Taf estuary – or, if you fancy some lengthier explores, join the Wales Coast Path for 870 miles of fab Welsh coastline rambles. When you’re in need of eats, set the barbecue smouldering or head into Laugharne to try some local bites. There's a washing-up area on site, along with facilities for waste disposal and dealing with rubbish. Four drinking water points have been placed at strategic locations around the park, so you'll not go thirsty around here. Unisex showers and toilets are housed in a block that's been thoughtfully provided with electric points for shavers and hairdryers and has central heating (big thumbs up to that in the chiller months). Please make sure that you dispose of all waste in the areas provided.

Liked: It was a great surprise to arrive and find a little bar, a lounge and a kitchen serving Sunday lunches! All hosted by really lovely people. So friendly and helpful. It was a farm camping stop and the grass was neatly cut. We are sorry we missed the Saturday night camp site entertainment.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike

Liked: Well maintained site. Clean toilets and showers (obviously muddy campsite feet will leave debris on the floors but this was still cleaned up regularly throughout the day.) Mini bar and freshly cooked food available. Friendly hosts. Decent pitches on flat ground. Mostly very peaceful, although there was live entertainment on Saturday evening, this was all done and dusted before half past ten and the peace and tranquility returned.

Disliked: Nothing! It's a lovely place to spend a few days and nights in the fresh air.

Great hosts, so friendly and accommodating, excellent food and bar, in small cabins, really lovely unique set up, clean toilets, showers and wash areas etc. looking forward to another break here, good for ages who want to caravan or camp and don’t like more commercial set ups. Short drive away from shops and pubs/restaurants, we loved staying here!

It is a good site with warm, well-lit facilities.

Liked: Location to Laugharne. Toilet/shower/dishwashing block. Bar and Cafe (which we did not use, but they were available, and prices looked reasonable.) Open space. Friendly staff. It is a simple site, really, by having toilets and a place to wash in. We read the negative comments about the toilets. We were happy with them, and believe me, my wife is really picky! (The ladies were nicer, in my view.) We picked this site primarily for its location. That it was cleaner than expected was a blessing.

Disliked: The toilet blocks were clean and much better than some people described. However, there were some cobwebs around the windows. I think my children would have appreciated it if they had been removed more frequently.

Liked: Lovely campsite, had all the basic amenities. Small site with a bar and music in the middle. 9min drive to Pendine, few mins drive into Laugharne. The owner was very kind and loaned me a electric hook up extension as mine had stopped working, Thank you ☺️ My well behaved chocolate lab was allowed to be left off the lead, although he doesn’t leave my side so not really a problem to anyone else!

Disliked: The toilet, shower & washing up block could do with a hoover every now and again, although clean (cleaner than others I’ve visited!) the spiders, cobwebs and dead flies squished on some of the walls and in most corners could do with being swept away!

Local attractions

Be sure to pack your swimming cossie for Nine Acres stays – Pendine Sands is a 10-minute drive from base and is fab for swimming, surfing, kayaking, paddleboarding as well as its sand-based strolling and its ocean views… and perhaps land speed record attempts too? Malcolm Campbell set a record on the seven-mile stretch in 1924, so make sure to stop in at the Museum of Speed to get yourself up to speed. If you’re after more slow-paced history, there’s plenty nearby you’ll want to tick off the list, starting with Llansteffan and Kidwelly castles and the Tudor Merchant’s House in Tenby (all about 40 minutes away), before slightly longer jaunts for historical yarns at the National Wool Museum and reliving your youth at the West Wales Museum of Childhood. Stick around Tenby to nab a berth on seal-spotting cruises, spend a few hours walking and talking with the animals at Manor Wildlife Park (just don't expect them to talk back), and potter around Folly Farm – or you could stay a little closer to home base for an animal-free but spectacular afternoon at the National Botanic Garden of Wales. Finish your break on a high note by making a beeline for the heady heights and adrenaline rides at Oakwood Theme Park, 40 minutes away.
