  • Small, modern pop-up glampsite with views of the river Usk
  • A 35-minute walk from Caerleon’s Roman baths and amphitheatre
  • Kitchen area with gas hobs and barbecues for alfresco cooking
If you’re not yet familiar with the small, historic town of Caerleon in South Wales, the first thing you need to know is that it was a significant military outpost during Roman times. Another helpful piece of information – Usk View at Roman Farm is just a 35-minute walk from its historic centre, including the Roman baths and Roman amphitheatre, making it a very handy base for visiting the historic attractions. The well-preserved archaeological sites were built back when the Caerleon was known as Isca Augusta and served as the headquarters for Legio II Augusta (the Second Legion Augustus). On the river Usk and just outside of Newport city, it has plenty of modern amenities including shops, restaurants, cafés and pubs (all within walking distance of the site) for everyday essentials, local produce and international or Welsh cuisine. While glamping at Usk View at Roman Farm, you’ll get to appreciate stunning views over the river Usk. All of the units have solar-powered lights and a phone/iPad charging dock. There’s a firepit for evening activities and a kitchen area with gas hobs and barbecues for alfresco cooking. The site also has communal toilets and shower facilities. Before getting stuck into the area’s stunning walks, warm up with a stroll to the Iron Age hillfort in Lodge Wood, a short walk away from the site.

Poppy safari tent (four person)

Liked: Great tent set up with everything you need. Wonderful views. Enjoyed sitting out with and cooking with the fire pit at night under the stars

Disliked: Would probably benefit from more toilets in the block but not a problem for us as we were only ones staying at the time
