  • Peaceful site a five-minute drive from Llangefni, in central Anglesey
  • Beaumaris Castle 25 minutes’ drive; Portmeirion one hour
  • Rural surrounding; dogs welcome; charging facilities
Gently floating off the shores of the northern reaches of Wales, the ancient island of Anglesey is a splendid spot for a whole range of outdoor breaks. And in the middle of the island, a few minutes’ drive from the A5 and A55 (aka the North Wales Expressway), is Ty’n Cae, a peaceful site that puts a whole host of brilliant beaches, castles and villages within your reach. Ty’n Cae sits in the small village of Rhostrehwfa, about a mile and a half (a five-minute drive, or a half-hour walk) from the slightly larger town of Llangefni, where there are shops, cafés and pubs. Also in town is the Nant y Pandy nature reserve, a peaceful boardwalk through a wildlife haven where you can also join the Lon Las Cefni cycle route. Back at base, you’ll be settling down on well-maintained grounds that are surrounded by wildlife and greenery. Ty’n Cae is the kind of laid-back place where you can bring the family along (including the dog, if you’ve got one) and gather around a barbecue while the sun goes down… The grass pitching field is set over a gentle slope and all guests have access to basic facilities including clean toilets (some of the composting kind) and hot showers. Chemical waste disposal, charging and recycling facilities are also available.

Liked: The views and the nearby animals were fabulous. I was the only van on site overnight but felt safe and secure. Lovely secure dog field. Bit slippery in the morning when trying to reverse the van out but nothing I couldn't cope with. Very convenient for those looking to explore the beautiful island.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: Really good facilities, shower toilet etc and close to local amenities. Great pub up the road and really close to the Anglesey circuit 👍 good playground if you have kids too and a really friendly host. Very accommodating to our group having 3 cars between us, even though there is no option for that on the website. I called in advance to explain the situation and it was not a problem.

Disliked: Nothing

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: Lovely quiet setting. Area very clean and hosts were very friendly. There are toilets/showers on site which were very clean. A play area for the children and small area with pigs/goats. Location of the site was great for accessing anywhere on the island and a town is located nearby for essentials such as food/fuel/laundry needs.

Disliked: Nothing we did not like.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: Lovely area, so much to do. Quiet site for around 20 pitches. Nice little play area for the children. Gordon was very attentive- checked we were ok a few times but very much left us to it.

Disliked: Only 2 toilets/showers so there was a lot of queuing. If two people wanted a shower all facilities were out of action. This is quite hard with little ones. The site was full so this was a problem - one pitch had 12 people staying on it, so when you factor in how many people need the toilet at once…

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: It was a quiet site with the kids mixing with others and playing relaxing great views

Disliked: Park for kids could be upgraded only 2 toilets and shower but ideal for this site just sometime a small wait not level pitches so if rains and not 4x4 and no motor mover may struggle to pull out

Local attractions

Overlooking the Menai Strait, Beaumaris Castle (25 minutes’ drive) is an unfinished fortress built by Edward I between the 1290s and the 1320s. A UNESCO World Heritage site (along with the castles at Conwy, Caernarfon and Harlech), it features four formidable rings of fortifications. Traeth Llanddwyn (25 minutes) is a sandy beach backed by vegetation-rich dunes that are home to assorted birdlife. The beach is sheltered from Atlantic currents by the Llanddwyn Island, which is peppered with historical remains, from Celtic crosses to watchtowers and the remains of an ancient church. Portmeirion (one hour), on the estuary of the Afon Dwyrid river, is a pretty Italianate village built in the 20th century. Buy a gelato, take a stroll in the piazza, lined with pastel-coloured buildings, and pretend you’re on the Amalfi Coast…
