Hafan y Môr room in your suitcase? Not even for little old us? No? What a pity, because we reckon it’ll be tricky to have any more fun than you can at Hafan y Môr Holiday Park, a flagship Haven site in Snowdonia with its own beach and top-notch facilities for an action-packed stay. The kids will be goggle-eyed at the indoor pool complex, for a start, with its flumes, slides, rapids, wave machine, inflatables, pool pedalos, water walkers and more. Feel uplifted as you fly through the air with the greatest of ease on the zips and slides of the amazing RopeWorks course, be the captain of your own ship on the serenely beautiful boating lake, tear up the track in the go-karts, get your groove on in the roller disco, or try and putt off the opposition on the adventure golf course (failing that, you can always get your revenge during a laser combat session) - the full range of activities on offer is simply too great to list here. The food facilities are pretty extensive too, with a Burger King, pizza place and traditional fish and chips, as well as the family friendly meals served throughout the day in the Mash and Barrel lounge bar and café. This place even has its own branch of Starbucks... As you’d expect from a Haven site, there are professionally run kids’ clubs for all ages, providing fun-packed activities such as circus school, arts and crafts, rock pool rambles and much more; plus a lively schedule of evening entertainment in the ShowBar, including stage shows, live bands, discos, quizzes and competitions. Young Bear Grylls in the making can even get stuck into the wildly entertaining Nature Rockz activities. Learn all sorts from bushcraft to building shelters and making campfires, while pond dipping, beachcombing and embarking on the odd bug safari could also be on the agenda. Most activities are free but a small charge may apply to some. Hafan y Môr Holiday Park enjoys a spectacular location on the Llyn peninsula, with direct access to the gorgeous golden sands, and a panoramic vista of the coast and mountains of Snowdonia.

Local attractions

Visitors should be well chuffed with the choice of historic railways in the area: the unusual rack and pinion system which climbs a breathtaking thousand metres to the summit of Snowdon; the Welsh Highland Railway, which steams for 25 miles from the castle walls of Caernarfon through gorgeous Snowdonia scenery such as the Aberglaslyn Pass, before ending up in Porthmadog; and the heritage engines of the Ffestiniog Railway, which puff their way to Blaenau Ffestiniog via lakes, waterfalls and some hair-raising mountain bends. Those who prefer travelling under their own steam can hit the Llyn Peninsula coastal path directly from Hafan y Môr Holiday Park, for great walking and panoramic views. The diverse terrain within the Snowdonia National Park - dramatic river gorges, cascading waterways, towering mountains and lush valleys - is ideal for adventure sports as well as hiking and pony-trekking. Glasfryn Adventure Park near Hafan Y Môr Holiday Park has quad biking, wake boarding and more; thrill-seekers will also find operators offering climbing, abseiling, caving and coasteering in the area. The Llyn Peninsula is paradise for surfers and kayakers, with the most fearless braving the foaming “Hell’s Mouth”: Porth Neigwl beach in Llanengan, whose four miles of sand have become one of the most famous surfing spots in Wales. Hafan y Môr Holiday Park is well placed for day trips to some of Snowdonia’s most popular tourist towns. With 22 towers in the walls encircling the historic centre, plus a majestic medieval castle looming above the river, the market town of Conwy is as impressive-looking as it sounds. Another World Heritage castle can be found at Caernarfon: a massive grey fortress dating back to 1283. For an entirely different feel, visit the pristine Italianate architecture and sub-tropical gardens of Portmeirion village, or grab a helmet and head into the Great Orme Copper Mines, where you can walk through four miles of caverns and tunnels carved out by hard-working Bronze Age miners a whopping 4,000 years ago. Rhyl Sun Centre is a large indoor pool complex where visitors can experience the waves (and warm rain) of a tropical thunderstorm, grab a board and hit the surfing pool, or whizz down some stomach-churning water chutes.
