  • Off-grid grass pitches with fabulous views of Snowdonia National Park
  • A 15-minute drive to Caernarfon and Snowdon Mountain Railway
  • Barn with showers, drying area and storage for bikes or kayaks
Set in truly spectacular Caernarfon countryside, Pen y Bwlch overlooks mountains and rivers whichever way you turn. Just on the edge of Snowdonia National Park, this is a secluded retreat with lots of space that lends itself equally well to romantic getaways and relaxed family breaks. Off grid this place most certainly is, but it’s also only a 15-minute drive from Llanberis, at the foot of Snowdon – and the gateway to walking, cycling and climbing adventures in the national park – a bonus for all you active types out there. A round up of simple facilities includes an eco-composting toilet near the camping field and a hot shower in the barn a short walk away, where you can also dry your clothes (this is Wales, remember, so rain does sometimes appear) – and there’s also room to store your bikes and kayaks. It’s worth noting that open fires aren’t permitted in this untamed part of Snowdonia, so firepit-style barbecues aren’t allowed. And as this site is all about relaxing in nature, you'll be asked not to play loud music after 8pm.

Liked: The view

Disliked: Having to park away from the tent. This wasnt clear in the website description. Also it wasn’t clear where reception was - not welcoming. Disappointed.

From the manager: Hi there. We are sorry you didn’t enjoy your stay with us which is disappointing as we try our very best to ensure all of our campers are happy customers. It does state on pitch up that you cannot park your car next to your tent and this is clear on the website description. As stated on pitch up also we close at 8pm unless the customer makes us aware of their late arrival so we are very sorry but we didn’t know you had arrived as we would have come to greet you as we do with all of our customers. Many thanks jonny and Beth

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: This is the most beautiful campsite I have ever been to. The view is breathing and it is so wonderful to wake up and see it as a first thing in the morning. Campsite is located on the farm where there are a lot of animals, we particularly liked donkeys and friendly cat. Really lovely host kindly told us the story of the place. The farm is located in a walking distance from Llanberis, the walk itself is very scienic on the peceful road. I loved this place so much. It was peaceful, far from any noise, only nature around you.

Disliked: Midges

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: The view was exceptional and the staff were friendly and helpful. It was a quiet safe site and felt like a little slice of heaven. Ideal location for a trip up snowdon.

Disliked: The campsite was exposed so be mindful if booking during thunderstorms/high winds, but all part of the fun.
