Entrance to the site

  • Eco-friendly meadow site next to a river in north Wales
  • A 15-minute drive to Llyn Brenig and 35 minutes from Rhyl
  • Stargazing on site; facilities built from local and recycled resources
It’s a peaceful set-up indeed at Dolwen Riverside Camping, an eco-friendly site alongside a river which feeds into the Afon Ystrad. The location and the set-up are very suited to families (but single-sex groups are not permitted), and as a Greener Camping Club Certified Campsite, the focus here is also very much on the environment; all the eco-friendly facilities have been built using local and recycled resources. Wildflowers sprout in the meadow during the summer months, and birds are regulars too. Woodpeckers, kingfishers and kites are among the flocks to be seen. Take a dip in the river as you please; the spacious meadow pitches are surrounded by peaceful farmland and alongside the river. This North Wales site is family-owned and operated. All pitches have a picnic table and firepit. There are hygienic, well-maintained composting toilets on site, as well as a dual pot wash station and showers. The gorgeous North Wales landscapes, of course, are also part of the equation. World Heritage Sites and excellent mountain ranges and lakes are within driving distance; the north is known as the ‘adventure capital’. It’s also an hour’s drive to Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon); the site can point you towards six paths to the top.

Primitive grass tent or campervan campsite

Liked: Peaceful site with plenty of space between pitches. Each pitch had its own table and benches and a fire pit. Facilities were clean. Very child friendly. Lovely owners. Numerous pubs in nearby Denbigh

Primitive grass tent or campervan campsite (large)

Liked: I liked the peacefulness of the campsite. The spaces between pitches was great and it meant you couldn't hear anyone else at night. The river was an added bonus and idea for a quick dip. The fire-pit was a nice touch and shop was well equipped. The facilities were also great, toilette was clean etc. Host was very lovely and welcoming as well.

Disliked: Nothing, I'd really recommend staying here and would stay again. I suppose there aren't many pubs or anything nearby but that's not really what you stay there for.

Primitive grass tent or campervan campsite

Liked: A really lovely campsite with simple but great facilities. Very welcoming hosts who took the time to welcome us and say bye at the end of our stay. The honesty shop is a great idea and the fairy tree was a huge hit with our daughter. She didn't want to leave them!

Disliked: Nothing!

Primitive grass tent or campervan campsite

Liked: Everything! So peaceful and serene, the facilities were clean and tidy, the owners were so friendly. There's a picnic table and a fire pit for every pitch and so meals are so easy. Pitches are well-spaced out- It feels so luxurious and quiet compared to campsites who cram in the pitches! There's a teeny honesty shop which is great for when you've forgotten the essentials. Lovely and very old oak tree in the centre of the field which makes the experience Blytonesque! The river runs alongside the field and it's perfect for paddling and looking for pretty stones (my kids would have happily pottered there all day!) We walked the very short distance into the village, where there's a great playground, and an amazing yew tree in the churchyard where you can climb steps un into its branches. The area is very beautiful with loads to do- lovely walks when the weather's bright, but close enough to towns if it gets rainy.

Primitive grass tent or campervan campsite (large)

Liked: Location and owners. Tranquil setting.

Disliked: Pitches too close together, don’t be fooled by the pictures. It’s just a field next to the owners house and very expensive for what it is. Noisy people next to my pitch, not addressed by owners at the time, despite being aware. No running water in toilet, seat broken and door kept shut from the outside with a garden chair! Far better places available for less money I will not be returning - ever!

From the manager: We are sorry we did not meet your expectations Whilst the comment on the toilet door was justified this has now been fixed and rectified. Regards Dave
