  • Family-run touring park just off the A4067 at Pen-y-Cae
  • Henrhyd Falls 10 minutes' drive; half an hour to Pen y Fan
  • Well-maintained heated bathroom block on site; pub next to entrance
Taking some time to explore the attractions of the Brecon Beacons National Park? Bag a berth at Brecon Beacons Touring Park and you’ll be making your base at a family-run park that’s in an excellent Powys position for getting out and about to see the stunning scenery of the southern and western parts of the park. Just off the A4067 between the villages of Pen-y-Cae and Ynyswen, when you stay at this park you’ll be well placed for visits to the nearby waterfalls, climbs of Pen y Fan and trips underground at the National Showcaves Centre for Wales. There are heaps of hiking and bike trails around to follow as well – and if that's not enough to keep you busy, well, you can always set off for the seaside, as the beaches of the Gower Peninsula are less than an hour's drive away. This isn't a park with a long list of facilities, but what has been provided is well designed and well maintained – including the bathroom block, which has heating, a baby changing area and accessible facilities. There’s also a chemical disposal point and a washing-up area, and you’ll be allowed to bring along an off-ground barbecue to do your alfresco meals (although, in another handy location bonus, there also happens to be a food pub a couple of minutes’ walk away…)

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Small campsite right next to a lovely pub with great food & drink. Owner of campsite really accommodating & friendly. Bathrooms clean & modern, you get a card key for access to them. Slightly sloping pitches. Can be noisy in the day due to a lot of bikers visiting the pub but very query by night so not a problem. Fab walks around, including Henryd Falls (the Bat Cave from Batman).

Disliked: Nothing, will def stay again.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Beautiful site. Plenty of room between pitches. Showers and toilets very clean. Nice dog walks. Easy walk into Brecon along the canal

Disliked: Quite expensive per night for 2 people and a tent but did have electric

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: I think this review is for a different campsite as when you stayed with us you didn’t have electric and we’re situated 20 miles from Brecon.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Superb site, with well maintained facilities. We received a lovely welcome from Janine, who was very friendly and provided us all the information we needed. All the pitches were in great condition, with water points nearby. They were also pretty level, so I’m sure campers and motor homes could get away with no leveling for short stops. Our pitch neighbor certainly didn’t level their vehicle. Everyone on the site was friendly and the pitches were spacious with the green area for tents and tourers without EHU. The shower and toilet facilities were well maintained, clean and had great water pressure when showering. These are accessible with a keycard. There are both grey and black waste disposal points and a great little washing room too, with facilities for cleaning clothing. Next to the site is a pub which serves a great selection of drinks, lovely food and has a decent sized beer garden. I’m not sure if they are the same business, I don’t think they are, but they complement one another perfectly. The site is dark at night making it perfect for stargazing, which we did and thoroughly enjoyed. The other guests were quiet and it was very peaceful. Overall was a really peaceful visit, wonderfully placed for visits to local spots such as the waterfalls and Dan Yr Ogof caves. I’d definitely make this my regular stop for visiting the Brecon Beacons, so look forward to returning. Diolch!

Disliked: Going home :(

Local attractions

Hiking is a real highlight around here, whether you're keen to tick off the major sights or seek out quieter trails. Some of the popular spots nearby include Henrhyd Falls (10 minutes’ drive), the Four Waterfalls Walk (half an hour) and the trails taking you up South Wales’ tallest peak, Pen y Fan (half an hour). For more of an adrenaline rush, take yourselves to the all-weather trails of BikePark Wales (40 minutes) or ride the high-speed ziplines at Zip World Tower (20 minutes). All a bit too much? Settle for a quieter life with a visit to the National Showcaves Centre for Wales (five minutes), animal encounters at Wales Ape & Monkey Sanctuary (five minutes) or a tour and tipple at Penderyn Distillery (20 minutes). Change of scenery? Get down to the Gower Peninsula (around an hour) for beach days and coastal walks – places like Mumbles, Three Cliffs Bay and Rhossili are well worth the longer drive, and there are lots of lovely places to eat along the coast too.
