  • Family-run touring park just off the A4067 at Pen-y-Cae
  • Henrhyd Falls 10 minutes' drive; half an hour to Pen y Fan
  • Well-maintained heated bathroom block on site; pub next to entrance
Taking some time to explore the attractions of the Brecon Beacons National Park? Bag a berth at Brecon Beacons Touring Park and you’ll be making your base at a family-run park that’s in an excellent Powys position for getting out and about to see the stunning scenery of the southern and western parts of the park. Just off the A4067 between the villages of Pen-y-Cae and Ynyswen, when you stay at this park you’ll be well placed for visits to the nearby waterfalls, climbs of Pen y Fan and trips underground at the National Showcaves Centre for Wales. There are heaps of hiking and bike trails around to follow as well – and if that's not enough to keep you busy, well, you can always set off for the seaside, as the beaches of the Gower Peninsula are less than an hour's drive away. This isn't a park with a long list of facilities, but what has been provided is well designed and well maintained – including the bathroom block, which has heating, a baby changing area and accessible facilities. There’s also a chemical disposal point and a washing-up area, and you’ll be allowed to bring along an off-ground barbecue to do your alfresco meals (although, in another handy location bonus, there also happens to be a food pub a couple of minutes’ walk away…)

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Small, quiet site with modern, clean shower block. Lovely hot showers. Janine (owner) is really friendly and helpful and if not on site, is only a phone call away. She text us details of an amazing walk/hike to Henrhyd falls, thank you. Everyone, including other campers, were friendly . The Gastro-pub in front of the site is a must to try. The food in the restaurant was excellent as was yhe service. Outside there's a "pop up kitchen" Van selling gourmet burgers, hotdogs & Pizza in a large beer garden that's patially undercover. Just a few minutes walk up the road there's a general store and a new lovely Coffee Shop. What more could you want.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Well laid out site with plenty of space. The toilet and shower block was clean and easy to access. The site is a good location within walking distance of 3 great pubs. Lots of walks from the site around the area.

Disliked: It is close to the river so there were a lot of gnats in the early evening but they're not around for long.

From the manager: Glad to hear you enjoyed campsite and exploring our beautiful area. Hopefully the gnats won’t stop you visiting us again.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: A lovely small campsite. Very quiet but close to a lovely pub with a large outdoor shelter which was great for a quiet drink in the rain with the dogs. Lovely clean toilets. The lady we dealt with was really pleasant and helpful. Lovely campsite in the beautiful Brecon Beacons.

Powered grass tent campsite

Liked: Lovely campsite, showers and toilets were clean and the showers were warm! The campsite is a great location for exploring all things nature!

Disliked: Only thing was, we had a group come and pitch their tents on our pitch which left no room for the car next to the tent. They were also up until 5am talking very loud and playing music which did put a downer on our stay as we were exhausted from being kept awake all night.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks for your review. I’m really sorry about your inconsiderate loud neighbours, hopefully you’ll visit us again and have a nice and peaceful experience.

Local attractions

Hiking is a real highlight around here, whether you're keen to tick off the major sights or seek out quieter trails. Some of the popular spots nearby include Henrhyd Falls (10 minutes’ drive), the Four Waterfalls Walk (half an hour) and the trails taking you up South Wales’ tallest peak, Pen y Fan (half an hour). For more of an adrenaline rush, take yourselves to the all-weather trails of BikePark Wales (40 minutes) or ride the high-speed ziplines at Zip World Tower (20 minutes). All a bit too much? Settle for a quieter life with a visit to the National Showcaves Centre for Wales (five minutes), animal encounters at Wales Ape & Monkey Sanctuary (five minutes) or a tour and tipple at Penderyn Distillery (20 minutes). Change of scenery? Get down to the Gower Peninsula (around an hour) for beach days and coastal walks – places like Mumbles, Three Cliffs Bay and Rhossili are well worth the longer drive, and there are lots of lovely places to eat along the coast too.
