Primitive grass tent campsite (sloping, wild)

Liked: Extremely clean, tidy site located close to the centre of Hay on Wye. Friendly management who go the extra mile and even came around and checked on everyone. We stayed on a wild camping pitch and although it was slightly sloped (this was advertised so we were aware) the pitch itself was a very spacious and placed in a way that you had lots of room between other pitches. There are levelling blocks available to borrow. Bathroom facilities were spot on. Three full cubicles (shower/sink/toilet) and then one toilet cubicle. This was my second time staying here and will 100% be going back!

From the manager: Hi Laura, Great review, lots of good information on your stay with us. we were all so lucky with the weather for the Hay festival, and i must admit the buttercups on the wild camping looked stunning. see you soon. Kind regards Allan, Tracy and the team

Powered cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked: Absolutely stunning grounds. Good size pitch. Each had own water tap and aerial point. Showers and toilets were super clean and the water temperature was perfect. We would definitely stay again. Kids park in the centre too which was handy and close enough to watch from the motorhome. The lady who greeted us was lovely too. We loved our stay! Also had a good 4G signal.

Disliked: Nothing!

Primitive grass tent campsite (sloping, wild)

Liked: We've been coming here for 3 years now and can't complement the site and people who work there enough. It's always so welcoming, the grounds are always in immaculate condition and with their toilets and showers cleaned daily it's always just a pleasure to be here. Can't wait to come back again already!

Powered cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked: Lovely site. Very clean toilets and showers. Great views and very quiet and that is just what we was looking for. WiFi was excellent!!

Disliked: The fear of the wild boar around the forest. Although fenced in from the site I was quite worried to walk around the woods

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Melissa Thank you for taking the time to write a review. although we appreciate a 10/10 I fear from the photos and the wild boar reference, you are reviewing the wrong park. but as we don't have any wild boars, maybe you would like to come here for your next camping trip. Many thanks, Allan, Tracy and the Borders team

Local attractions

Once you’ve filled your boots in Hay-on-Wye’s numerous bookshops, there’s more to do in town, including exploring the castle, strolls and picnics by the river, and fortifying stops in the many hostelries and eateries. If you fancy further river ventures, make for Glasbury, 10 minutes' drive away, to hire canoes and kayaks for trips down the Wye. Should you prefer the ease of an engine-driven craft, the base at Llangattock (40 minutes) has cruisers for daily hire. If it’s walks at height you’re after, Talgarth (15 minutes) is a starting point for paths up the Beacons’ highest mountain, Waun Fach; for gentle wooded wanders with a waterfall at the end, plus wildlife spotting on the way, head over to the Pwll y Wrach nature reserve (20 minutes). To see the Beacons on horseback, there are treks of various lengths from Llangorse Multi Activity Centre (25 minutes), as well as indoor climbing and high up zipwires and rope walks both inside and out. If that’s not energetic enough, Oakerwood Leisure (40 minutes) has pastimes like paintballing, quad biking and clay pigeon shooting to get the adrenaline pumping. Historical type? Clamber round ancient sites like Crickhowell Castle and Llanthony Priory (35 and 45 minutes), puff through the hills on the Brecon Mountain Railway from Pant (50 minutes), or descend deep into mining heritage at the Big Pit National Coal Museum, an hour away.
