Liked: Will definitely be back to the Green Dragon inn. Stunning food with a Sunday lunch to die for, the owners Shazz and Tommy are the perfect hosts and the most welcoming, can’t wait for another visit!

Power optional cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked: The hospitality at the green dragon was brilliant. Friendly, chatty and accommodating. We had the tapas on the first night and it was lovely and our dogs got a little sausage and gravy on the house . The showers and toilet were clean . The views were beautiful

Disliked: Only down side for us was we struggled to walk the dogs near by with the roads having thin paths or no paths which is unfortunate as it is not the businesses fault .

Power optional cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked: A friendly welcome and great value for money. Lots of nature and lovely birds singing away. Excellent food in the quirky pub! Clean, functional facilities and level pitches. Yes the road next door is busy as other reviewers have said and there was some noise from trains too, but if you keep your van windows closed, you can't hear either - we slept very well.

Power optional cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked: Clean and tidy well kept site, and I don't think we have ever been made more welcome anywhere. Our main reason for stopping here was that we wanted a pub stopover for a night and it didn't disappoint. We had a fantastic meal in the beer garden, the owners even brought a sausage out for our dog Tilly! We then went inside and spent the rest of the evening chatting and having a few drinks with the owners and other guests like we'd known them for years. Inside the pub is a collection of vintage and antique items for sale which makes it quite interesting too! Overall we had a fantastic night. Toilet and shower facilities are basic and limited but it wasn't an issue. The site is by a main road but again, not an issue after several pints!

Power optional cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked: Super site, the owners are so welcoming and friendly. Food in the pub is first class definitely recommend having a meal during your stay. The owner even cooked sausage and gravy free of charge for my dog. The pitches are hardstanding and ground is very well looked after. I will be back very soon

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: This is a very relaxed and peaceful site. The site is clean and well maintained. Ideally situated to reach Welshpool Town center and other towns. The owners are very friendly and helpful. The shower is hot and powerful. The only downside is you have a main road at the front and the railway at the back but you soon get used to the noise and don't notice it after a while .

Local attractions

What horizons to set your sights on first? Well, for those of you who have historical sites high up on your holiday to-do list, there are a few places to get started and Powis Castle (10 minutes' drive) is one of the closest out of the lot. This huge Welsh castle has some splendid garden terraces and walks in the grounds are a real treat… For less walking and more chugging about, steam train trips go from the Welshpool and Llanfair Railway Preservation Company (10 minutes). To continue with your historic streak, The Wharf Powysland Museum (10 minutes) spills the beans on Montgomeryshire’s local history, while for ruins, Montgomery Castle (15 minutes) and the Mitchell's Fold Stone Circle (20 minutes) are some of your options. Of course, activities-wise, walking is particularly fine around this area, especially in the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (20 minutes) and Snowdonia National Park (40 minutes) but the kids in your group could cheer on the pig races or meet the alpacas at Park Hall’s adventure farm (25 minutes). Meanwhile, the adults might prefer to go for a laidback game of golf at the Brookland Hall Golf Club (10 minutes).
