  • Peaceful, scenic countryside site near the Llandegley Rocks
  • A 10-minute drive to Llandrindod Wells; 25 minutes to Elan Valley
  • Pleasure fishing on site; pub serving food within walking distance
Anglers, hikers, pub goers and horse riders… settle serenely down at this site for all of what you seek, in a peaceful position in the Powys countryside. Spring Rock Holidays is set near the Llandegley Rocks, with several public rights of way starting right from it including a spectacular waterfall walk and forest hikes. It has its own pleasure fishery for anglers of all abilities, made up of a 15-foot lake with mirror, common, ghost and koi carp up to 25lbs; river fishing on the Ithon and fly fishing are both available nearby too. Several sports and leisure centres with swimming pools are in in the area too, along with a riding centre and pony trekking, 4x4 drives and kayaking along the Wye. And whatever flavour of break you go for, you'll likely like a stroll to the Severn Arms within walking distance of the site, which serves real ales, pub grub and takeaway (please note there's a short roadside section on the walk to the pub). Spring Rock has a toilet and shower block, a separate washing up area and a chemical disposal point.

Liked: Beautiful setting around a fishing lake, modern immaculate shower/toilet block. Only stopped for 1 night so only passing through but staff and long stay residents very friendly and welcoming, don't have children so can't rate it for them but don't think it's meant for kids activities

Liked: The site is incredibly beautiful especially with all pitches surrounding the lake. It was particularly lovely at sunset. Facilities are excellent; clean and well kept.

Disliked: We invited some friends who live locally over for a cup of coffee on our last morning and stupidly didn't think to ask the owner if that was okay. I acknowledge that was our mistake, but he was then incredibly rude and hostile towards both us and our friends and would not accept our apologies in any way at all. Sadly we all left and, even more sadly, we won't be back to what would otherwise have been one of our favourite sites.

From the manager: Hi thanks for your comments, we noticed a vehicle come onto site that was not booked that parked on an occupied pitch beside your van. I popped down to ask if the vehicle was with yourselves to which you said they were friends you’d invited round for breakfast. I replied that I’m very sorry but unfortunately we do not allow visitors on site and explained as to why and unfortunately we will have to ask that they leave. At no point was I rude or was it an aggressive out burst, in fact I was apologetic to have to ask. Our site is not large enough for our guests on site to have visitors we do not have the space to park the potential of eight extra vehicles nor would our facilities cope with the potential of 16 extra guests. We had guests still on site who had kindly and respectfully come to ask earlier in the week if it would be ok for their friends to pop round. At that time all of our pitches were full and had no space for the extra vehicle so I said that unfortunately we’d not be able to, they were very accepting and understanding but understandably would have been very disappointed with us if we had said no to them but yes to you. They came to me after you’d left and said that it was nice to see everyone is treated fairly and equally as some sites have one rule for and one for another. As mentioned when you came to ask again if they could stay that when we have people turning up not booked on we have no idea who’s onsite if there is an emergency or fire nor do we have any of their details should they hit a vehicle turning etc. I’m sure you’d be very dissatisfied with us if your vehicle was hit and you came to us to get their details or complain and we said we had no idea who it was so are unable to help, it really would not look very professional on us. This would be the same if you were unable to access the facilities your paying to use as part of your pitch fee if our site was full of non paying visitors, I’m sure you’d be very disappointed. We have always run our site to the capabilities of our facilities, to the space that we have available ensuring all guests have their own pitch and space for all to walk around and enjoy along with ensuring our guest are as safe and secure as we can possibly provide, along with more importantly running the site to what we are insured to offer. I’m sorry that you find this level of service disappointing and will not be returning but pleased to see you found our location beautiful, facilities great and would be one of your favourite sites!

Local attractions

After a leisurely time fishing on site, more of the same can be landed at the local pub's section of the Ithon river, via fly fishing at Rhayader or Llyngwyn, or in the Wye from the nearby town of Builth Wells. Other active options easily accessed from here are pony trekking and horse riding, 4x4 experiences, Wye Valley kayaking and hikes around the Elan Valley. Cyclists should also like the hundreds of bikes and loads of cycling bits at the National Cycle Museum in local town Llandrindod Wells. If you're up for events, the Royal Welsh Showground at Llanelwedd near Builth Wells hosts events throughout the year including the Royal Welsh Show in July, the Smallholders' Show in May, the Winter Fayre in December, dog and horse shows, and two antique fairs. You could also have a look at the red kite feeding station at Gigrin Farm, or take to the car for day trips: the Brecon Beacons, Aberystwyth and Hay-on-Wye are all within an hour.
