The path to the cabin

  • Cosy hand-crafted log cabin at a three-acre rural Powys smallholding
  • A 15-minute drive to Llandrindod Wells; 20 minutes to Knighton
  • Private bathroom, kitchen and garden area with firepit and hammock
Itching to escape modern life, but not so keen on roughing it? Tucked away on a three-acre smallholding in rural Powys, about 15 minutes’ drive from Llandrindod Wells, Hilltop Hideaway could be just the place. The ‘hilltop’ aspect of the name of this place is very accurate – this cosy log cabin is in an elevated spot with fabulous views across green fields and trees to the hills all around. And the ‘hideaway’ part is equally apt, as you’ll have complete peace and privacy in this quiet part of the property. The cabin itself is a gorgeous building, hand-crafted from larch logs and with eco-friendly natural sheepswool insulation. Reclaimed furniture and items collected from the owners’ travels give the cabin a real sense of character, and it’s also been well equipped with handy extras including books, board games and DVDs (plus wifi for those who don’t want to switch off entirely…). Everything here has been designed for comfort and convenience – there are towels and toiletries provided in the shower room, the kitchen has a good collection of pans and utensils (plus a hob, microwave and fridge) and there’s electric heating and a woodburner to keep everything warm. The sleeping space is on a mezzanine reached by ladder – it feels really cosy, but it’s worth noting that the ladder and low ceiling may not be suitable for everyone. You’ll want to spend some time outdoors too, of course – that may be tramping local trails, horse riding, wild swimming and mountain biking, or it might be chilling out in the hammock in your private garden before pouring a glass of wine, lighting the firepit and spending the evening staring up into the starry skies…
