  • Small family-friendly site in the foothills of the Brecon Beacons
  • Just off the A470, a 10-minute drive from Brecon
  • Peaceful setting next to woodland with a small stream running through
Stand by for action… Rhydywernen Farm Camping Site’s fab family farm location is in a most handy spot for getting out into the Brecon Beacons National Park for days of hiking, mountain biking, horse riding, canoeing, gorge walking and pretty much any other activity you’re up for in this part of Powys. And then, stand by for chilling out… for this is a most peaceful location, with spacious pitches backing onto woodland and a small river that’s prime territory for such classic country pursuits as skimming stones and poking about with little fishing nets in search of minnows. Away from the water's edge guests are encouraged to meet the site's miniature donkeys, helping to feed them and put them to bed in the evenings. Barbecues with a backdrop of the Brecon Beacons are of course a fine way to sort dinner on site (firepits are available to hire, with firewood to buy). If the weather’s not up to it (or you’re just in the mood to let someone else do all the work), there are plenty of pubs, cafés and restaurants up the road in Brecon. Work up an appetite for your eats with an hour-long stroll along quiet country paths, or get in the car for the easy 10-minute journey to town along the A470 (also a handy road for getting to other corners of the national park or heading across country to the north or south). Please note this is a family-friendly site: no open fires, no bad language and no loud music after 10.30pm please. Facilities on site include toilets, a washing-up area and free hot showers.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Nice, well maintained toilets and showers, which were regularly cleaned and kept fresh. Bonus that there were heaters in the facilities, which made middle of the night trips to the loos much more comfortable. You can also purchase firewood on site to use in the firepits they provide for you. Site also has picnic benches, were were a nice addition. In addition to this there is a small kitchen with kettle, and some fridge and freezer space for campers (though this is for everyone so don't bring masses which needs storing). Lots of walks locally, and about a 40 minute walk to Brecon town. Animals nearby that you can go and see if you'd like, such as sheep, goats and donkeys. Lovely owners, really helpful and checked in to make sure everything was good.

Disliked: The showers can be a bit low on water pressure when more than one is being used.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Fabulous campsite! Female member of staff (didn't get her name!) was amazing, so friendly and helpful. She arranged pizza delivery from the nearby Greedy Goat after we got back from walking the horseshoe route. Direct access to Brecons on foot, lovely clean stream, good clean facilities, fire pits, family friendly. Perfection and amazing value for money!

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Toilet and shower block and layout of touring field. Within walking distance of Brecon.

Disliked: Only 10 amp electric supply. Lucky we had a low voltage kettle. Also needed to make sure no othrt appliances were on exept fridge. No dedicated hose on the toilet waste water tap for rinsing toilet cassett. Had to use an old plastic bottle then dispise of it.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: The facilities were spot on, exactly what you need when staying in more of a remote spot. The fact the site was on a working farm made it even better, being able to enjoy the animals the owners keep on the farm. The owners were friendly with great contact details listed on a notice board, with local spots also listed. I would highly recommend this site to campers that enjoy the peace and quiet of a more rural site.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Nice, level pitch no need for our ramps! Peaceful, right next to a lovely stream. My elderly parents were allowed to visit for lunch which was much appreciated! And we found a great walk with a footbridge over the river & through the woods, idillic location.

Local attractions

So much activity awaits in the Brecon Beacons National Park: pick a gentle hike around woods and waterfalls if you want, or get stuck in to scaling Pen y Fan (25 minutes’ drive away and southern Britain’s highest mountain). Horse riders can saddle up at the stables 10 minutes away, while those who like to zoom around on mountain bikes can get some speed up at BikePark Wales (25 minutes). The outdoorsy antics don’t end there – Brecon’s something of a hub for such things, and activity centres around the town can sort you with rafting, canoeing, high ropes courses and gorge scrambling. All sound a bit too exhausting? Take a more leisurely ride on the Brecon Mountain Railway (25 minutes) before heading home via the Penderyn whisky distillery (20 minutes). Break out of the Beacons for trips to some of the area’s other attractions: Llandovery Castle is half an hour away, as is the book-loving town of Hay-on-Wye. A little further north but worth a trip are the lakes of the Elan valley and the red kite feeding station in Rhyader; both are around an hour’s drive away.
