From the manager: Hi. Glad you enjoyed your stay with us. The roads can be a bit narrow especially with very large motor homes and campervans. This time of year the hedges grow and we are not allowed to cut them back until September due to nesting birds. We would love to see you again. Was a pleasure to share our beautiful valley with such friendly guests. Thank you Andre

Liked: Warm reception from Andre (owner) upon arrival; couldn’t have been more convivial or pleasant, briefly but clearly explaining where everything was, where he could be found if needed, and just ensuring we were aware of the set-up.

Disliked: Nothing

Liked: The peaceful countryside views

Disliked: The very narrow track to get to the site was a big put off especially no signage anywhere. The portable cabin makeshift toilet block, very low toilets and not good showers that cost £1. The washing up facilities are in a very small tin shed, not great when there is more than one of you.

From the manager: Hi Sarah I’m Sorry your 1 night booked stay at our site was not to your liking. The accommodation was your own Campervan. The roads are typically Welsh and not large but we have much bigger units than yours here with no problem. In summer the roads do narrow due to foliage growth. Our toilets are standard height as you would find at home and the electric showers are £1 for as long as you like and clearly stated on the pitchup website. Thank you.

Great stay in idyllic location!

Top Field primitive grass and earth tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: We visited for the weekend, after dropping a daughter off a Aberystwyth University. Aber camping was a 10/15 min drive away. Peaceful campsite. The nearby walks were stunning, but we had limited time to enjoy them, so we'll be back to take more time in the area. Local people were friendly & chatty. Good pint at the friendly local pub (the walk up the hill to it will make you ready for that pint 🙂). 2 toilets in the ladies, same in the mens, and also a shower in each block. Basic, but clean & shower was hot. Mostly had the site to ourselves. Small, limited pitches.

Local attractions

You’re bound to end up in Aberystwyth (15 minutes’ drive) sooner or later – it’s not just a place for practicalities but also a great spot for a day out, spending time on the beach, trying out various watersports, riding the cliff railway up to the camera obscura or visiting the National Library of Wales and the ruins of Aberystwyth Castle. Aberystwyth is also the starting point for the Vale of Rheidol Railway, which provides steam-powered trips to the stunning Devil’s Bridge Falls. If you’d rather head straight to the falls, it’s about a 15-minute drive. While you’re inland, stop by at the red kite feeding station at Bwlch Nant yr Arian Forest (five minutes) or head underground at Silver Mountain Experience (10 minutes). And then? Maybe back to the coast for a day at Borth (20 minutes), further inland to the hikes of Elan Valley (45 minutes) or north for an educational day at the Centre for Alternative Technology (45 minutes)?
