  • Well-maintained and peaceful lodges 15 minutes' walk from Loch Tay
  • Less than five minutes' drive from Killin and a Sustrans cycle route
  • Pet-friendly site surrounded by nature trails, streams and waterfalls
Set below the Ben Lawers and Tarmachan ranges, a 15-minute walk from the spectacular Loch Tay, Killin Log Cabins is a smart pick for a self-catering hol in the countryside, whether you’re after a trip taking on challenging mountain treks or where the only walking you’re planning is a stroll to the local village… After you've stretched your legs on the half-hour wander to Killin, the well-equipped lodges are cosy and comfortable spots to return to and soak up the peace of the surrounds. Wildlife is abundant in the local countryside, with red deer, red squirrels and ospreys regularly spotted at the nearby waterfalls, streams and woodlands. Reckon you’ll be craving an evening out socialising after all these quiet days in nature? The excellent selection of traditional pubs, modern bars and restaurants in Killin has sociable folk sorted. And if you’d rather curl up in your cabin with a homemade meal and your dog by your side, that’s possible as each of the pet-friendly lodges includes a kitchenette. Lodges are also kitted out with handy extras like cutlery and a dishwasher, plus wifi for nights in streaming your favourite TV shows or downloading directions for navigating your way on the Sustrans cycle route that passes through Killin. Ask the site’s owners about which walks and bike rides to go for – they’re a great source of knowledge on the local area and keep a pile of Ordnance Survey Maps handy for guests to borrow.

Local attractions

Cycling really is fab hereabouts – hire bikes in the village, then set off towards some of the gorgeous glens in the surrounds. You can also stick around close to home with wanders by Loch Tay or get in a round of golf at the course in Killin (less than five minutes' walk). Or how about brushing up on your knowledge of local history? Head to the Scottish Crannog Centre (25 minutes’ drive) for guided tours around an Iron Age dwelling with exhibits, crafts and music demos to see as well. Animal aficionados, meanwhile, can bound over to Blair Drummond Safari Park (55 minutes) near Stirling to get a load of the lions, tigers and chimpanzees; this park also has a play area with pedal boating for the younger members of your travel crew. Prefer to see creatures in their natural habitat? Take the ferry from Balmaha (an hour and a quarter) to Inchcailloch island in Loch Lomond and wander along the two-mile nature trail with your eyes peeled for birdlife. If you’re up for an adventure on the water, canoes, kayaks, powerboating and waterskiing sessions are also available on this large lake in the Trossachs region.
