  • Peaceful holiday park in the Angus Glens, 10 minutes' drive from Alyth
  • A 40-minute drive from the museums and attractions of Dundee
  • Pond, play area, 20 acres of woodland and excellently-kept amenities
You'll have an idea or three why this fab Scottish site is so popular even before you book. Your upcoming excellent location first: Perthshire's Nethercraig Holiday Park is in the stunning Angus Glens, within half an hour of Dundee and Blairgowie, and only a mile from spectacular strolls and first-rate birdwatching at Loch of Lintrathen. If you care to stretch your legs still futher, it's a 10-minute drive from the park to the small town of Alyth, which is on the 65-mile circular Cateran Trail through Perthshire and the Angus Glens; you might have an idea or three that the scenery around here is pretty stunning too... You don't have to leave the grounds for yet more handsome hikes, as Nethercraig includes 20 acres of woodland where the helpful site owners have marked out a trail for wandering and dog walking. And if you prefer sitting in dreamy contemplation rather than crashing about the countryside, take yourself off to the large pond for peaceful times by the water – the kids have a playground and a football field to keep them nicely occupied. Previous guests have given plaudits aplenty about Nethercraig's handy setting, friendly approach, spotless amenities and thoughtful layout, where the accommodation areas are among hedges and trees to maximise seclusion and a sense of space. The toilet block is centrally set and has toilets, hot showers, accessible facilities, baby changing, a washing-up area and a launderette. Nethercraig has a small shop and a smart barbecue hut to aid fuelling up; for more supplies, a butcher, pubs, cafés and takeaways are in Alyth. If you're here for golf (it's Scotland, after all), sort your swing right on site at the golf practice net, before a speedy drive to Strathmore Golf Centre six miles away to show off your new moves.

Liked: This is a gem of a site set in beautiful countryside it is immaculately kept. The site owners and staff are very friendly and have considered what to add to make your stay more enjoyable - children’s play areas, dog walking area. Woodland walk, which is really lovely. There are lots of places to visit locally such as Peel Farm or slightly further afield such as V& A in Dundee. If you happen to be on the site on a Saturday a very good fish van visits, chance to sample the famous and delicious Arbroath Smokey!

Liked: Staff: The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, meaning we could settle onto our pitch with minimal fuss. Site: The site was really clean and tidy. There was plenty for the children to do including play areas, woodland walks, ponds and a football pitch. There was even a designated area to exercise our dog with balance beams and tunnels. Pitch: The pitch was big enough for what we needed in a great location.

Camping pod (pet friendly)

Liked: Beautifully kept grounds. Loved the dog exercise area and the woodland walk. The little shop area and that we could borrow a couple of books/toys were brilliant. Very friendly and helpful owner. Great shared facilities (toilets, showers, washing up space) too - clean & modern.

Disliked: 1. Park facilities were very basic, very poor. 2. Toilet/ showers were very poor, old and small. 3. Almost no children facilities

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave your review however we would like to address the points you have raised as feel that you have very unfairly left a negative review. You have stated that our park facilities "were very basic, very poor", we are a country park with a view to enjoying nature and our surroundings. All our touring pitches are very spacious (all can comfortably fit a tourer/motorhome with awning and a car), with electric hook up available at no extra cost, we have a shop on park selling essentials and local produce along with a lending library, we have a private 22 acre woodland walk for all on park to enjoy (where you can also find our relaxing yoga platform) along with our toilet, washing and shower facilities. Although our toilet and laundry facilities building isn't brand new it is in an excellent condition and we pride ourselves on the high standards of cleanliness we provide (as evident in many many of our reviews) therefore to score us so low on cleanliness does not seem justified. You have also stated "almost no children facilities" which is false as we have a large outdoor sandpit, table tennis, a small play park and playhouse suitable for younger children along with a larger play park suitable for all ages, we have a football playing area, as already mentioned our woodland walk to explore where you can also do den building. Inside reception we have our lending library stocked with books, DVDs, toys and games which are all free to borrow. We would also like to highlight that you have rated the accommodation as 4/10 however you did not hire any accommodation from us and so this should not be reflected in our score. You have also given us a very low rating on our location however we advertise exactly where we are and as already mentioned we are a rural park set amidst the Angus glens and the heather-clad moorland, Nethercraig is a beautiful, tranquil park where you can escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. As you have given us this review over 2 weeks after a one night stay we are also querying whether you have left a review of Nethercraig mistakenly and was it perhaps meant for another park you stayed at?

Local attractions

Summer songbirds and winter wildfowl flock around the reservoir of Loch of Lintrathen a mile away, a pretty place for wanders as well as wildlife watching. The loch has two hides, one of which (on the east shore) is wheelchair accessible. History and heritage are also within sightseeing reach: famed Glamis Castle (yes, the Macbeth one) is 25 minutes' drive away , Scone Palace within 45 minutes, and Discovery Point, the maritime museum telling the tale of Scott's Antarctic research ship, within 40. There's also the 19th-century stately home at Camperdown Country Park (35 minutes), part of a 400-acre estate also home to a wildlife park and an 18-hole golf course. Kids should like a potter around the Beatrix Potter Exhibition and Garden at Birnam 45 minutes away, while pursuits certainly for the grownups include Edradour Distillery and the Famous Grouse Experience, 55 minutes and an hour and a quarter away.
