  • Green rural getaway in Scotland's first Fairtrade town
  • Spectacular scenery and plenty of open space
  • Manicured landscape with spacious level pitches
If you could think of something to rhyme with Aberfeldy, you might come up with your best lyrics while feeling mightily inspired by Aberfeldy Caravan Park and the gems surrounding it in the old Scottish district of Breadalbane. Once home to famed poet Robert Burns and made more popular still by its status as the first Fairtrade town on Scotland’s map, Aberfeldy should make shopping sorts and scenery seekers break into a little song (and even a dance). You’ve picked the right spot too if you're after a green and rural getaway: the handsomely manicured grounds and garden here provide spacious and level pitches at the park, all accessible by a clearly marked path. Then take a step through the gate on to the footpath that runs between the site and the River Tay and you’re slap bang in peaceful Scottish countryside. When you’re not admiring the view of the River Tay or the Strath Tay landscape thick with hillsides and trees from your pitch (it’s enough to make anyone come over all poetic), the sprogs will enjoy the open space in which to run around and the well-equipped play area on site. The site has clean shower and toilet facilities and a laundry service, along with other handy amenities, and you can bring your pup along for a plentiful helping of Scottish air too.

Power optional grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Great friendly clean quiet site . A lovely walk with the dogs following the river. We were late arrival, the staff were very friendly and informative. The toilet and shower blocks clean.

Disliked: Having to pay separately for the electric considering the cost for the pitch. However, this didn't dampen our stay.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Enjoyed the camping stay. Lovely place and friendly staff. Clean bathrooms, nice restaurants around as well.

Disliked: Perhaps more toilet facilities around the campsite. There was only 1 toilet where our pitch was, and there were around 20 other pitches that shared the same toilet.. which meant more waiting time.

Liked: Clean and tidy. Good location by the river. Nice dog walk from the park and along the river.

Power optional grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Leaving.

Disliked: • lack of staff supervision after 5pm • price..£43 per night without electricity. • most of the toilets had rickety seats. •nothing was cleaned during our one night stay and shower floor was running with water. Only glass recycling bins were available. The site is prone to flooding. The site has surveillance cameras, which I'm not sure is mentioned.

Power optional grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Check in and out was easy. The site is well tended to and clean and tidy, as are the toilets and showers. Loved the fact that even for a full site, it quietened right down just after 10pm.

Disliked: There was a delay in getting the first email explaining I had to click a link to pay in full (was driving and took about an hour to come) so by the time I paid I had to wait a good 20 minutes at a locked gate before I was given a code to enter or pitch number. When I got to my pitch someone else was on it, so I had to go into the next one along.

Power optional grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: The atmosphere of the park, the shower block, the helpful staff and the closeness to town

Disliked: The gate being open all day as my little one was on his bike, so worried about him riding out to the road, but we understand why it had to be left open

Local attractions

The historic Dewar’s World of Whisky distillery is within handy walking distance from the site for tipples, tours and your fill of liquor heritage. The vibrant highland town of Aberfeldy, for shoppers and lovers of all things organic, is a 10-minute walk away in one direction: get your caddy in tow if going here too, because in the other direction is a golf course within walking distance. If you're a hill walker, join the footpath along the River Tay straight from the site which leads to an array of walking challenges; from a stroll (via a pub, naturally) or a hike up some of the landscape’s more demanding routes: the view at the end (and all the way along, in fact) will be well worth it… Cyclists and mountain bikers have a fair bit of varying terrain to try out in the area, from the old railway path along the Rob Roy Way linking Aberfeldy and Grandtully gently taking in the sites of the area that inspired Robert Burns, to the steady climb of Castle Dow and other steeper tracks.
