  • Peaceful holiday park with fantastic views of Ben Nevis and beyond
  • A five-minute drive from Fort William and the Ben Nevis Visitor Centre
  • Great Glen Way within a 25-minute walk; wifi available on site
The highlight of a trip to the Highlands and Islands? Feasting your eyes on the UK’s tallest mountain range – and that’s exactly what you can do the whole time you’re settling in at the scenic (and aptly named) Ben Nevis Holiday Park. This well-maintained site in Scotland, set by the River Lochy and with lots of green space for kids to play and grownups to wander, also looks out across the Aonach Mor mountains. It makes a brill base for day trips by car, bike, train or foot in the Lochaber area as it’s just over five minutes’ drive from the centre of Fort William. Cycling and walking paths are close to this park – including the famed Great Glen Way along the Caledonian Canal (25 minutes’ stroll) – and a selection of shops and restaurants is just down the road. If you’d prefer not to venture far from base to gather supplies, a store on site sells the basics, camping supplies and local produce, while a café and takeaway serve up a range of light bites and drinks. Other conveniences at this thoughtfully run park include electric hook-ups, a coin-operated laundry room, clean toilets and showers, and laundry amenities. Families and groups are warmly welcomed here for hiking hols (or restful trips).

Powered grass tent campsite

Liked: The area, facilities, general conditions of the field and surroundings.

Disliked: No access for car to EHU tent area. Small cars with tents are still bit discriminated but there are more of us and we are happy to pay, our wee vehicles has no space like big campers to carry battery inside.

FHU cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked: Setting, peaceful & quiet setting. Scenery. Location. Staff at reception & cafe very pleasant & helpful.

Disliked: Showers - awful. 11 seconds & it stops. Not very good having to press the button up to about 15 times or more when washing hair. I thought this gave a bad mean impression & spoilt what is a good campsite. Emptying waste water from Motorhome not easy as position of drains is not easy to drive into. Really could be improved.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Well layed out park. Welcoming. Clean with lots of bins. Great toilets and showers, clean, tidy, modern, warm. Liked the music. Actual setting lovely as well. Would definitely come again.

Disliked: The chickens wandering around weren't great, especially when we travel with a dog. Also whenever eating outside they'd be straight over. Also left their mess when they visited.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: As soon as I walked into reception I was greeted with a very friendly women who described perfectly what was what. I pitched up then had a wonder about. Absolutely stunning camp site in an absolutely stunning area. The chickens the roamed freely were very curious sometimes and approached cautiously. Very cute indeed. The WC and toilets were lovely and clean and easy to find. Over all I loved staying here. Would definitely come back.

Disliked: Could have had shower gel etc on the showers.

Local attractions

The owners reckon there’s something for everyone around this site, but walkers and cyclists are especially sorted when it comes to activities. If you’re up for a trek, challenge yourself to one of the trails up Ben Nevis, getting intel on which ones to tackle at the mountain range’s visitor centre, just over five minutes’ drive away. If you’re after a lazier lope, amble along the Caledonian Canal from the locks at Neptune's Staircase (25 minutes’ walk) or get your RDA of exercise by nipping in and out of the shops of Fort William (five minutes’ drive). The town has plenty of stores selling mountaineering kit if you need equipment to try out the more intense pursuits – think skiing and downhill biking – available in the area. For a family day out, make your way to the Glenfinnan Viaduct (25 minutes’ drive) and see if the kids recognise it from the Harry Potter films – the Hogwarts Express was filmed crossing this oh-so-scenic bridge. Saving perhaps the best activity till last, top off your trip by paying a visit to the whisky makers at the Ben Nevis Distillery (15 minutes’ walk) for a few drams of one of Scotland’s finest exports.
