Primitive grass campsite

Liked: The view was lovely, the owners were very friendly. Kids loved the animals and the fire pit for toasting marshmallows, the toilets and shower room was very clean and smelled fresh every time, the small in closed paddock was ideal to let our 5 month old puppy off the lead to play fetch. Would definitely recommend to friends and stay again

Disliked: Could do with somewhere to wash up dishes even just an outside kitchen sink rather than using the toilet sink, some more hocks or a small shelf/seat to sit clothes on in the shower room would be good.

From the manager: Thank you for the lovely review, we do now have a clothes rail in the shower room, and I have put up a couple of shelves in the shower for shampoo and soap. We are closing to do a bit of site refurbishment as we are moving all the Electric pitches up into the field so we will also be looking at getting an outside washing up area too really please you enjoyed your stay Hope to see you again.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked: Family run, friendly and happy to go out of their way to make sure you have a good stay. The animals and river are great to see in the mornings. Great value for money.

Disliked: Very waterlogged after the downpour, muddy and slippery. Some shelves in the shower, nowhere to keep your clean clothes, dirty clothes, the floor was always wet but a mop is provided, I think a step at the bottom would help keep water from running off the curtain onto the floor.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for the review, we are closing on Saturday to improve the site, all the pitches will be moved away from the road and into the camping field and will all be hard standing which should help when it rains, the shower is very new so any recommendations are always welcome to improve it.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked: What a wonderful welcome to Scotland! Just across the border is this absolutely delightful camping... Beautiful surroundings and scenery, very quiet. Only one shower and two toilets, but seemed to be just fine. We overlooked a sheep farm, and could go have a walk among them to the river nearby. Pitches very level, some muddy places. Highly recommendable.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked: Very quiet, lovely views, clean facilities, really feels like you’re in nature and you can hear the river next to the site. Lovely sheep and hens with fresh eggs to buy. Friendly people running it.

Disliked: Cars / Lorries going past quite close it’s ideal but we wouldn’t let this put us off staying there again

From the manager: Thank you for the review, we are starting to move the pitches to the camping field in the next few weeks so everyone will be away from the road. Hope we will see you again.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked: The owners were very helpful and couldn't do enough for you. The facilities were kept very clean. Great peaceful sight with friendly animals and great having the river adjacent the sight for our daily paddle. All in all, could not fault the place in general. Fresh eggs available on site. No doubt we will be back.

Disliked: We were on an electric pitch and the ground was quite hard when pegging the tent down....luckily we had substantial pegs so his wasn't an issue for us. Had we only taken the pegs that were supplied with our tent, then it would have been a real struggle.

Local attractions

The city of Carlisle (45 minutes’ drive) has a well-preserved castle that must have seen some serious action during its centuries-old life in this border city. Other attractions include a stretch of Hadrian’s Wall and a medieval cathedral. After all that sightseeing, take a rest in one of several green areas along the River Eden. For outdoor activities such as watersports, cycling and horseriding, you can make a beeline for Kielder Water and Forest Park (50 minutes). There are also wooded walks, plus stargazing events organised by Kielder Observatory and birdwatching (ospreys nest here). At the Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (about an hour), you can admire the mudflats in the Inner Solway Firth, stretch out on the sand dunes at Mawbray Banks or check out the boggy pools at Drumburgh Moss, which are visited by curlews, geese and skylarks, depending on the time of year.
