  • Characterful and eco-friendly glamping on an Ayrshire family farm
  • Easy access from the A77 15 minutes' drive from Ayr
  • Communal barbecue, picnic benches and firepit; sauna (additional fee)
Characterful and comfortable… and also eco-friendly and fully surrounded by nature. The lovely glamping units at Bracken Barns Glamping certainly have a lot going for them – and they’re in a great spot for exploring the Ayrshire countryside too. Just a little way off the A77, about 15 minutes’ drive from Ayr, this glamping site is part of a family farm where the owners are working hard to create a low-impact eco-friendly setup. The off-grid accommodation and facilities make use of recycled and upcycled materials where possible, and they’re powered by solar panels. Each unit has access to its own kitchen area and a private bathroom with shower and compost toilet. Staying on a farm, you will of course spot some resident animals around the place, and you’ll also be able to have a wander around the woodland copse to see if you can spot any wildlife. After that, perhaps you’ll want to head out for a walk to explore the local area a bit more, or just settle down to enjoy the relaxed rural atmosphere on site. This is a friendly site that welcomes all guests – kids and dogs included – and with owners who are very happy to dole out advice on things to do and places to go nearby. Among the suggestions might be a trip to the beach, a castle visit or a day spent exploring the life and times of local boy Robert Burns.

Local attractions

You’ll have met a few animals at the farm, but for more animal encounters you’ll want to head to Heads of Ayr Farm Park (15 minutes’ drive), where you can see alpacas, wallabies, monkeys and many more native and exotic species – there are also feeding sessions to join in with. You may also spot a bit of wildlife while walking through the woods at Culzean Castle (15 minutes) – this place makes a great day out, with a beach, outdoor sculptures, an adventure play area and some lovely gardens as well as the stately home and its art galleries to visit. One of the big attractions nearby is the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum (10 minutes), where you can learn about Scotland’s national poet. The surrounding village of Alloway is a lovely place to have a stroll as well – take a walk along the River Doon to see the famed Brig O' Doon.
