  • Well-equipped cabins in Argyll Forest, a 10-minute drive from Dunoon
  • Benmore Botanic Garden five minutes’ drive; West Bay beach 15 minutes
  • Dogs welcome; TV with streaming services; board games and books
Are the Scottish woodlands calling your name? Then Ruskin Lodges, on the southern fringes of Argyll Forest and within the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, might be the place for you. The site is close to lochs (Loch Eck is a five-minute drive away) and beaches (like Dunoon’s West Bay, 15 minutes); Loch Lomond is under one hour's drive away. Stylish log cabins are a good fit for families looking for a self-catering break, with child-friendly gear (high chair, potty-training set, dedicated nappy-changing area and more) in place. Four-legged companions are welcome, too, and the site owners will happily share tips on local dog-friendly pubs, restaurants and walking routes. There are plenty of other local activities to get stuck into, whether it's watersports at Loch Eck or five minutes' drive away at the Holy Loch Marina. For longer day trips, perhaps eye up Inveraray, 45 minutes' drive north, or Tighnabruaich, 40 minutes' drive southwest. After exploring the area, it’s good to return to your cosy lodge, where you can have a hot shower before wrapping yourself in a fluffy towel and watching your favourite programme on the 42-inch TV (just remember to bring any passwords to log on to your streaming services). If you want to take a break from electronic devices, the huts also have a range of board games and books. Whoever finds themselves on cooking duties will work in a kitchen with a hob, oven, microwave, fridge freezer, kettle, toaster and coffee maker. Supplies are available from a well-stocked and licensed petrol station just along the A815 (five minutes) or from Dunoon (10 minutes).
