Campervan parking on gravel pitches
Overview of the complex
Parking space

  • Campervan parking in County Clare’s historic Lisdoonvarna spa village
  • The Cliffs of Moher and Doolin Ferry both 15 minutes’ drive
  • Basic off-grid pitches; pubs and restaurants within five minutes’ walk
How wonderful life would be if you went on holiday and actively did some good while you were away. You have a chance to do exactly that when you stay at the Campervan Parking in historic Lisdoonvarna – Ireland’s only spa village. All money raised from this campsite is ploughed back into the community by Lisdoonvarna Fáilte, a non-profit social enterprise managing more than 80 acres of community-owned attractions, sports fields and event space in rural County Clare. The site offers basic but secure gravel campervan pitches for anyone wanting to visit Lisdoonvarna’s visitor attractions, including the Twin Wells on the River Aille and the Spa Wells Heritage Centre. The on-site Lisdoonvarna Fáilte office operates 9am until 4pm on Monday through to Friday during summer months, so if you have any issues with your stay, staff members are there to help you out. Just a word of warning before you book your pitch; the facility only provides parking space. There are no toilets or showers, no electricity and no chemical-disposal amenities on this site. However, you’ll never be stuck for somewhere to eat, as there are nearly a dozen options close by, including welcoming pubs and takeaways.

Primitive gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked This is just a car park for a leisure centre - so you need to be aware before you book. It was quiet once the sports facilities had closed and the walkers/children . Prior to that, there was children running around the car park. However, it was perfectly ok. There was a great pub very nearby that brews it's own craft beers and whisky called the Roadside Tavern. It also served fabulous food.

Disliked You need wheel chocks to level the van. We were the only campervan (we were out of season though), so it did feel like a wild camp.

Primitive gravel travel trailer campsite

Local attractions

There’s much to check out right from your campervan: there are history displays at the Spa Wells Heritage Centre and riverside walks to the sulphur springs at the Twin Wells. If you have kids with you, they’ll doubtless love the animal sculptures on the Woodland Trail, and the whole family can join in with social events at the Pavilion Community Hall. The spectacular Wild Atlantic Way runs through this corner of County Clare; unmissable sights to check off include the dramatic rock formations at the soaring Cliffs of Moher (15 minutes’ drive). From there, you can stride the scenic Cliffs of Moher Walking Trail past clifftop O’Brien’s Tower – stop off to admire views of the Aran Islands – to Doolin Cave (an hour’s walk) for a magical subterranean tour of limestone caverns. If you’ve got your sea legs, take the boat trip across Galway Bay to the Aran Island of Inisheer from Doolin Ferry (15 minutes’ drive) and marvel at the stark outlines of the Plassey Shipwreck or clamber around the ruins of O’Brien’s Castle.
