  • 28-acre park on the Antrim coast, less than a mile from the beach
  • Spectacular views over Ballycastle bay and towards Rathlin Island
  • Heated pool, outdoor play area, pool table and amusements
If you're talking about the scenery of these isles, it's easy to bang on a bit about beautiful beaches, commanding coastlines and world-class wonders – but that’s be-cause hols in the UK/Ireland just are not complete without a sometime stay on the cracking Antrim coast in Northern Ireland, home to the fabled Giant’s Causeway, scenery to make your eyes water, and a pint of the black stuff properly poured. Causeway Coast Holiday Park is slap bang in the middle of it all, on a mature 28-acre park with spectacular views over Ballycastle bay, the cliffs of Fairhead and puffin-filled Rathlin Island to the north. It’s less than a mile to the Ballycastle sands from here, and five and 10 miles respectively to two of Northern Ireland’s best-known attractions, bouncing around on the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge and stepping around on the World Heritage Site of Giant’s Causeway. (Naturally you should know too that another top Northern Irish tourist attraction, the Old Bushmill Distillery, is also within a 15-minute drive…) Causeway Coast is set up so guests can have a lazy family day on site or relax after a day of hiking the Ulster Way/Causeway coast or scrambling around the Glens of Antrim: facilities include a heated indoor pool with slide; amusements; a pool table and an outdoor play area.

Liked: The view over Ballycastle, Rathlin and Scotland

Disliked: Pitches were steep, unable to level van, water was not at pitch had to drive around to fill up, toilets/shower block a hike away, a lot of drunk/high parents and unsupervised children shouting, swearing, hurting each other and moving around van until all hours, trying to open doors, turning off electric etc as pitches not segregated. Have to pay for swimming pool, young adult employees everywhere.

Liked: The pitch was good, the whole park looks huge on the map I was given but everything was close by and easily accessed. The kids enjoyed playing football on the all weather pitch. It's close enough to walk into the town and back. I enjoyed breakfast in the restaurant the next morning while the kids were in the pool. The kids also really enjoyed the swimming pool and water slide. The toilets and showers were really clean as was the whole campsite and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Disliked: Quite expensive to use the pool for 1 hour (£6.50 per child) but they did enjoy it. The overall stay was quite expensive (£52 for 1 night in own motorhome).

Local attractions

Ireland’s only World Heritage Site the Giant’s Causeway is the most visited tourist attraction in Northern Ireland and since 2012 has had a spanking new visitor centre. Parking charges at the centre are per adult rather than per car, so many visitors choose to park at the nearby Giant's Causeway Railway car park, as admission to the stones is free and a bus covers the short journey from the visitor centre to them for a nominal charge. From Ballycastle marina, take the six-mile ferry trip to the tiny RSPB reserve of Rathlin Island to see puffins, fulmars, buzzards and guillemots; you’ll spot seals easily too as soon as you step off the ferry. The beaches of Portrush and Portstewart, the most visited along the north coast, are within about 15 miles and well worth seeing for the mile-long peninsula of Portrush and the sand dunes of Portstewart. Barry’s Amusements is at the former, along with the famed Royal Portrush Golf Club, which has hosted both the British and the Irish Opens. For shopping and urban sightseeing,Coleraine, home of the Riverside Theatre, is about half an hour from the site; Belfast an hour, and Derry within about an hour and a quarter.
