  • Family-friendly site by the river Avon in the North Wessex Downs
  • A 20-minute drive from Stonehenge and 35 minutes from Salisbury
  • Pub (closed Mondays) with a garden, drinks menu and a park for kids
Pitch up and grab a pint at The Woodbridge Inn, a cosy pub by the river Avon which is just 20 minutes' drive away from Stonehenge. Both family- and dog-friendly, the grass pitches at this site are a short drive away from stunning walks in the North Wessex Downs National Landscape. After rambling all day, return to the site for an evening in the beer garden, which has a small play park to keep kids busy. Only 35 minutes' drive away from Salisbury too, this pub site is fab for exploring Wiltshire. Have a cold pint in the pub garden next to a narrow section of the river Avon and spend the evening around a barbecue or firepit (both are welcome as long as they're raised off the ground). There are three acres of grounds in total, and up to two dogs are welcome per pitch. The pub (closed on Mondays) serves drinks and a limited selection of sandwiches and bar snacks due to ongoing refurbishments. Other facilities on site are basic but functional and include showers, toilets and a small washing-up area. The showers and sinks all have hot and cold water. When it's time to pick up supplies, head to the small shops in the village; they are within half an hour's walk of the site. There is a wider selection of shops in Pewsey, which is five minutes' drive away.

Powered cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked: Picturesque quiet campsite next to stream. Friendly pub with choice of ales/beers and reasonably priced food. Stayed for one Friday night, 2 live bands in the pub. Very dog friendly.

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Stayed one night during a solo motorcycle trip. Plenty of space to pitch on a simple site with clean and functional facilities. Friendly welcome in Pub. Good food (had a very nice burger).

Disliked: Nothing really (except the weather was a bit grim!)

Liked: The environment was pretty, relaxing and nice an quite.

Disliked: Had multiple people come up and ask if we paid and had someone ask if we could put dog in car as he was meditating.

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked: We’ve only ever ‘camped’ with a caravan so thought we’d take the kids (7&9) and 2 dogs for their first tenting experience. Upon arrival we’d had an incident with the dogs being sick on the way, the lady was very helpful and gave me spray and blue roll to attempt a clean up. We chose a pitch in the bottom of the main field, there was electric plugs too which was a nice surprise as we hadn’t expected any! Be mindful the site is undergoing renovation and has just reopened, so the facilities are still a work in progress, however they are clean with showers, toilet and a wash up area. There is a lovely stream that the dogs enjoyed trying to dive into and a play area in the pub garden for the children. The pub dog is very friendly and the gentleman who I assume is the owner, brought him around a few times to say hello and check in with us which was lovely. The pub had live music in the evening until around 11pm, which we didn’t know about. It wasn’t a problem to us but others around us moaned, we would have gone across if we realised beforehand but we’d already lit the fire and got into our pjs! It is near a main road but I guess not a very busy one as we didn’t notice traffic noise like other reviews mentioned. We had a lovely stay and will definitely be returning but probably with the caravan (personal preference, nothing to do with the site). Thank you so much.

Disliked: Only one toilet in the ladies block so the kids were wrestling over going first, but as mentioned above a work in progress so absolutely minor observation.

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Ease of arrival, just needing to phone a number on the gate to be told to go and pitch wherever fancy and go into pub to pay. Hot shower; so many sites have Luke warm press a button showers. This wasn't the case here.

Disliked: Pitching anywhere resulted in a bit of a free for all. People squeezing in here and there. Got quite cozy with the neighbours.

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked: For the money it was good. £10 a night for my small tent.

Disliked: The heavy machinery working adjacent to the site which started at 7:30 every morning I could have done without. The music at the pub went on very late. There was no toilet paper or soap in the toilets. For the money I can't complain too much.

Primitive cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked: Easy to find Pub was really nice. It was burger night, and honestly it was the best burger I had in ages. Absolutely delicious. Didn’t use the showers or toilets at the campsite, so can’t comment. But would stay again.

Disliked: Close to a fairly busy road, but was quiet over night and slept really well. My van was slightly over 6m and had to pay quite a bit more despite not needing electric hook up or any of the other facilities.

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Plentt of nice spots to pitch, some tucked away in the trees. Facilities okay, showers were clean and warm, toilet could do with some attention. The pub is lovely and Sunday dinner was lovely, two more pubs and a shop within 5 minutes drive, half hour walk.

Local attractions

Woodbridge is well placed for Stonehenge, Avebury, Swindon, Salisbury and the south coast, making it a nifty stopover point on longer trips or an excellent base for Wiltshire and south-west sightseeing. As well as Stonehenge and Avebury, a must-see on a Wiltshire trip of the historic variety is the Westbury White Horse (35 minutes' drive), the huge 80-feet high chalk horse carved into the slope of Salisbury Plain on the edge of Bratton Downs; clamber up to it for views of Bratton Castle and two more Wiltshire chalk horses at Devizes and Alton Barnes. The fab medieval town of Salisbury, with 13th-century cathedral and original copy of the Magna Carta, is 35 minutes away.
