  • Luxurious glamping pods in the Mendip Hills near Bath
  • A 25-minute drive to both Wookey Hole and medieval Wells Cathedral
  • Super kingsize beds, luxury private hot tub and ensuite shower rooms
Meanders in the Mendips and eves around the firepit are part and parcel of Perry’s Paddock. These natural camping pods have a spectacular setting in a peaceful field with views of the Mendip Hills in Somerset… and good news for those of you searching for a top-notch glamping experience, they have all the mod cons – including a luxury hot tub. Each of these glammy and cosy wooden cabins comes kitted out with a super kingsize bed and quality bedding (please bring extra beds and linen for the kids) with a Smart TV, and a sparkling ensuite shower room with heating (you’ll need to come equipped with towels and toiletries). You won’t find a wifi connection here but for browsing all the local attractions, personal hotspots will make do. For the morning time, tea and coffee-making facilities are on tap and there’s a fridge freezer in the communal kitchen to store your perishables and a washing-up area in the same place for after eating. Rest up on your private balcony, cuddle up around the firepit in the garden, and enjoy a barbecue around your own picnic table – the place to pick up supplies is Paulton, five minutes’ stroll away. At this site, you’ll be in pole position for getting to know some of the big-hitting West Country attractions like Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole’s underground caverns, as well as day tripping to cities including historic Bath and thoroughly contemporary Bristol.

Local attractions

For those of you who are always on the hunt for a foodies-approved place, the local villages and towns will sort you right out. In Paulton (five minutes’ walk), there are restaurants, pubs, a café and shops, and in Frome (20 minutes), markets and bars make a pretty pairing. Wells (25 minutes) is a lovely old town too, with a Gothic-style cathedral, bishop’s palace and marketplace. Into the bigger cities… spas, museums, abbeys and historic bridges are the thing of Bath (20 minutes), while in Bristol (35 minutes), you could spend a day at the zoo, looking around the historic dockyard at SS Great Britain or taking to a restaurant for dinnertime. What of those more active pursuits? You might want to start off with a cycle along the Colliers Way (five minutes). The Mendip Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (10 minutes) has walks in plenty, while Cheddar (30 minutes) has climbing and a walk above a gorge. While Glastonbury (35 minutes) might have a reputation for its hippy shops (good news for those of you who like a shopping trip), there are walks up the tor to do. And before you turn in for the day, the caves at Wookey Hole (25 minutes) have all sorts of cool chambers and stalagmites.
