  • Bell tents at a spacious Somerset site at the foot of Brent Knoll
  • Brean and Burnham-on-Sea beaches within 15 minutes' drive
  • Firepit and firewood provided; pub and cider farm a short walk away
What’s on your wishlist for a Somerset glamping stay? Easy access from the motorway? Seaside close by? Pub walks just outside? You can tick the whole lot off in one fantastic location at Windy Ridge, in Brent Knoll (the village) and at the foot of Brent Knoll (the 137-metre hill). Getting here should be fairly straightforward as it’s only a little way from Junction 22 of the M5 – and once you’re in, there are lots of ways to get out and about for walks or bike rides. Three footpaths run directly from the field, taking you to sample award-winning cider at Westcroft Cider Farm or find real ales and traditional pub food at the local inn. It’s also handy that you can walk to the village shop for a range of local produce for your picnics or evenings by the firepit (which is provided with your tent). And the seaside? That’s easy to get to as well, with Brean, Burnham-on-Sea and Weston-super-Mare all within a 15-minute drive. Turn the other way and there are plenty more things to keep you busy nearby, including walks in the Mendip Hills and trips to Wells, Glastonbury or Cheddar Gorge. With all this to fill your days, it’s good to know you’ll have plenty of space to relax back at the site: bell tents here are on an eight-acre property surrounded by stunning views over farmland and hills. Each tent has beds made up ready for your arrival, plus handy things like a cool box and wood for the firepit. Dogs are welcome to join you on a break here too.

Local attractions

Beach time on the menu? Burnham-on-Sea (10 minutes’ drive or an hour’s walk) is a good place to start – the town has the second-longest stretch of sandy beach in England, plus trails and fishing in the 42-acre Apex Leisure & Wildlife Park. The dunes around Brean (15 minutes’ drive) are good for a walk too, and there’s a splash park and small theme park for the kids. Weston-super-Mare (15 minutes) is a good bet too, with a sandy beach and lots of activities including watersports and crazy golf. Heading inland, you may like to have a go at paddleboarding at Cheddar Reservoir (20 minutes), take a walk through Cheddar Gorge (25 minutes) or head underground at Wookey Hole (35 minutes). There’s also the option of taking town strolls around the characterful streets and independent shops of Glastonbury (35 minutes) or visiting the cathedral and Bishop’s Palace in Wells (40 minutes).
