  • Spacious and well-equipped Dorset pods by a nature lake
  • Chesil Beach and Abbotsbury 10 minutes' drive; Weymouth 15 minutes
  • Self-contained glamping for couples; lakeside deck and rowing boat
How might you fancy waking up to views of a lake right outside the window, with ducks swimming about and insects buzzing among the reeds? That’s the lovely morning experience that awaits for guests at Portesham Pods, a quiet little site in the Dorset National Landscape. Of course, it’s not just in the mornings that you’ll be able to appreciate the lake – you might also like to sit out on your large waterside deck in the evening with some snacks and drinks, or maybe take the rowing boat out for a spin to take a closer look at the wildlife that lives in and around the water. In such a vibrant natural setting, it’s probably no surprise that the site owners have chosen to make their pods as eco-friendly as possible. That means they're off grid, with solar panels for electricity and LPG for gas, and created from sustainable materials including a living roof. Each of the pods is self contained and kitted out with all the essentials for a comfortable couple’s escape. The sleeping area (with kingsize bed) is screened off from the rest of the spacious pod, which has a sofa and a kitchen area with cooker, fridge, kettle and toaster. Each pod also has an ensuite shower room. In a rural spot about 15 minutes’ drive from Weymouth, this is an excellent location for getting out to explore Dorset. When you’re not watching the ducks on the lake, you could be taking in the landscapes of the Jurassic Coast, visiting historic estates or strolling along sandy beaches. The local village of Portesham has a pub for meals out and a farm shop for your meal supplies.

What customers say

Portesham Pods provides a clean, quiet, and restful stay by a lovely lake. Guests enjoyed the modern, well-equipped pods, comfy beds, and great showers. It's a perfect spot for visiting local beaches, trails, and pubs. Some found the pods warm on sunny days and 4G was spotty. A few suggested more outlets and a coffee maker. Host James was often called helpful and efficient.

Camping pod

Liked Great place. In the heart of the countryside overlooking a pond full of wildlife. A get away from it all, no TV or radio, back to basics.

Disliked As an eco pod, it would be great to have a recycling bin. Chopping board and dust pan & brush wouldn’t assist along with hooks for hanging wet coats.

Camping pod

Liked Quiet secluded location close to Weymouth. Beautiful tranquil surroundings with a lovely lake full of wildlife to sit and enjoy.

Disliked Upon arrival the entrance to pod up the steps was overgrown with weeds and left very little space to get up and down and carry luggage through without scraping our legs. We were disappointed with the lacks of electrical points. We emailed to ask if there were electrical points for other electrical items and we were told yes, only to find that they are all USB points. During the heat wave we had to go and buy several USB desk fans to stay cool as we couldn't plug in and use our own fans that we brought with us. The host would benefit from providing some sort of fans especially if heat waves continue as the pods were very hot. Also the bed was very uncomfortable to sleep on and the mattress was far too soft to provide any comfort and support. The pod had been cleaned before we arrived but we found hairs on the sink, ring marks on the counters and dust around the edges of the room, dead flies around and the blanket provided in the wardrobe wasn't clean. Bedding was provided but we brought our own luckily as the bedding wasn't clean there was some black mould on the duvet they provided and the pillows had yellow marks on the corners. The doors and windows to the pod were stiff and lopsided so was hard to open and close and need looking at as it took us several attempts to lock the doors up each time we left the pod.

From the manager: Sorry you felt like giving us a bad review.
To address some of your points. The pods are sold as off grid living back to nature with a comfortable stay. The weeds you are talking are wild flowers .providing food for the birds and the bees as you said where nice to watch.Bedding .unless you pre book there is no bedding provided only protected covers.on the pillows and mattress. A 13 amp 3 pin plug is in the pod by the mirror. Sorry the heat of this summer . Its out of our control. Perhaps in future you need to read the provided information before booking at any off grid holliday
Sorry for your miss understandings

Liked Locations was wonderful - pods were very clean, lovely setting, great shower. Bed very comfortable

Disliked Very hot in pod - obviously the weather was very hot but the fan wasn't great. Also needed more plug sockets - only one found in the cupboard by the bathroom.

Liked peaceful location. Very clean.

Disliked Bit hot, but then the weather is very hot. If the sofa had been a sofa bed, we could have slept seperately.

Camping pod

Liked Lovely peaceful location. It was perfect as we had 1 pod and my daughter and her husband had the other as there are only 2 pods at the location.
As the pods are quite isolated it might be nice to take a pack of cards or some travel games for a bit of peaceful entertainment.
I would highly recommend as a lovely getaway

Camping pod

Liked loved the tranquility, the ducks, the deer, the swifts, leaping fish. Very well equipped. Could have done with a cafetiere for necessary early am coffee. James was so helpful and a good host.
Loved proximity to Bennetts Water Garden and Abbotsbury.

Disliked Missed the 3pin plug for my hairdryer! The heat after returning Day 1. Closed curtains during day thereafter whilst out and about.
