Liked: Loved our stay here! Super welcoming, lovely and clean, and we went for a nice walk along the public pathway right next to the campsite. We were working from our motorhome and were particularly impressed with the WiFi at our spot! Thanks for having us, we'll be back 😊

Primitive grass campsite (medium)

Liked: We have stayed here about 8 times now. We love the site for the area but most if all for its cleanliness. The shower blocks and toilets are immaculately clean whatever time of day you use them. We have thought about trying other sites but we always come back to Portesham Dairy Farm. The staff are second to none. Amazing job they all do. I can’t speak highly enough about them and the work they do. Thank you so much. Jacky Watts

Primitive grass campsite (medium)

Liked: My first camping experience at a commercial campsite after years of stealth camping, and wasn't disappointed. Excellent facilities and location. Clean and well maintained. Easy access with automated entry. Generously sized pitch. Good showers with unlimited hot water. Great pub and cafe/shop within 5 minutes walk.

Disliked: Nearby rookery is rather loud. Ants on pitch (not much of a problem if you keep your tent clean, but be sure to thoroughly brush off your groundsheet before leaving!) One of the sinks plumbed in backwards resulting in scalding water when set to "cold". Campsite wifi seems under-provisioned for capacity of site, but there is good O2 mobile data signal (faster than camp wifi). These are fairly minor issues and I would definitely return if I was revisiting the area. (Although I might specifically request a pitch away from the crows!)

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to write a very kind review and 10/10 overall score despite the minor issues We are so happy that you were not disappointed with your first camping experience at a commercial campsite and we hope to see you again for another stay (away from the rooks this time)!

Local attractions

However long you stay here (at least a couple of weeks, preferably), there's enough to see and do around Dorset to entertain all ages and tastes. Ditch the car if you prefer: the local bus stop is 150 yards from the farm entrance, to pick up the Jurassic Coast route bus (X53) running from Exeter to Poole. The Portesham Dairy Farm team recommends a climb up to the Hardy Monument on Black Down (five minutes' drive) as a nifty way to see Dorset and its splendid coastline (the monument isn't to the writer Thomas Hardy as you might expect in these parts, but to Vice Admiral Thomas Hardy, a commander at the Battle of Trafalgar; do be sure to tell that to the kids). You should be able to see the Devon coast, the Mendip Hills and the Isle of Wight from here on a clear day; just clamber the 120 steps up to the viewpoint. Also much recommended is Abbotsbury, home of the famed swannery as well as subtropical gardens and a kids' farm (also five minutes' drive), and the golden sands, sand sculptures and fair rides of Weymouth, 15 minutes from the farm. Portland (25 minutes) is also a must: visit the lighthouse, forage for fossils and come down the hill from the top of town for stunning views of the coast and Chesil Beach.
