  • Peaceful, dog-friendly rural farm site in the Dorset countryside
  • A five-minute drive to Swanage and half an hour to the Jurassic Coast
  • Back to basics site with drinking water, toilets, and showers
From castle gambols to digging for treasure in the sand, the Jurassic Coast and the serene Dorset countryside are your stomping grounds when you stay at Quarr Camping. Between the novel-esque Corfe Castle and the traditional seaside town of Swanage, this family-friendly site is well situated for an action-packed holiday of countryside capers or simply a spot of well-deserved seaside relaxation. Toot toot… what’s that sound? The traditional steam railway is nearby, and the heritage railway of Harman’s Cross railway station quite literally around the corner (10 minutes’ walk). Explore the area on foot, wheels or rail, and tick off coastal must-sees such as Durdle Door, Dancing Ledge, and Winspit Quarry, all within a 30-minute drive. Once you’re done, lean back and listen to a countryside soundtrack – crickets, cows, and all sorts of countryside animals – on this peaceful rural farm site, welcoming families, dogs and all countryside enthusiasts. You'll have to prepare to get back to basics at this site, but it's got running drinking water, toilets, showers and a chemical disposal point. Plus, you can complete the true outdoor experience with a campfire or barbecue, picking up supplies from the local shop within a 10-minute stroll. If a pint or pub grub is on your mind, there are also several pubs within five minutes’ drive. You’ll certainly need the fuel after an action-packed day of watersports, coastal hiking or biking, or sightseeing your way around.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Pick your own pitch, clean facilities, great views, owner / employee super helpful- didnt catch his name but he was driving around delivering fire wood to people all afternoon for them & always approachable ! Short drive to all the popular places :)

Disliked: The whole site slopes a fair amount. Windy site, so try to pitch near hedges at the sides! 20p for the shower only gets you 2 minutes (per 20p). found that out the hard way. Site gets boggy during rain which can be an issue for non-off road cars as there is no hard standing to drive on to get to your pitch. They are ready to tow you out whenever you need, but something to consider

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: The open spaces and unlimited pitch size. Very quiet no road noise. Toilets in a fair condition. Owners were very friendly and would deliver the logs and kindling to your tent.

Disliked: Really needs the grass cutting. Bins need to be emptied as they were full from the day we arrived to the day we left. (2 nights). Very hilly and very difficult to find a flat spot. The ground was very soft and numerous vehicles were stuck and had to be toed out. Luckily we had a 4 wheel drive so not a problem but anything less and you will have trouble. Wouldnt stay again but only because it was very hilly. Nothing around so you had to drive everywhere would of liked information about the walks around the area as you can walk to Swanage but there were no sign posts or any information.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Really liked the layed back approach and atmosphere, friendly staff and loved the firepit. The campsite caters for all, basic facilities, quiet, close to bus stops and x2 garages at top of the road.

Disliked: Boggy ground due to rain but not campsites fault, an offer of being towed if needed was there, not many flat spots

Local attractions

You’ll feel like you’ve stumbled into a scene from a storybook at Harman’s Cross station (10 minutes’ walk). Pick a picnic bench, gaze at the old-school platforms and Portland stone period buildings and watch as the trains roll by. More history hangs heavy in the air at Corfe Castle (five minutes’ drive). The Jurassic Coast is where you’ll find most of the action… head down early to beat the crowds to Durdle Door (30 minutes) and its neighbour Lulworth Cove. It's hard to beat a shoreline that has silky sand, iconic landmarks and paddle-worthy waters all in one. Tick your way along the coast, beginning with a dip in the shallow pool at Dancing Ledge (5 minutes), and then on to Winspit Quarry (15 minutes) and the clifftop Durlston Country Park and National Nature Reserve (15 minutes)… or pick between watersports or a sandcastle face-off on the beaches of Sandbanks (40 minutes) and Studland (10 minutes).
