  • Back to basics site five miles from the New Forest National Park
  • A 10-minute drive from Moors Valley and 20 minutes from Bournemouth
  • Large field set aside for playing football, dog walking or relaxing
It’s the simple stays that stick with you – and those at Little Hill Farm are likely to be rather memorable, what with its spot five miles from the New Forest National Park and 20 minutes’ drive away from Bournemouth. This back to basics site is all about quality time… in the forest, playing football on site or relaxing on the beach – you name it. What might you expect here? Little Hill Farm has heaps of space, including a huge field that's been set aside for families to have a friendly footy match, walk the dog or simply relax on the grass. There are toilet and shower blocks on site, along with fresh running water. Handily for any keen hikers or those who consider family walks a must for any getaway, there are excellent trails within five to 10 minutes’ drive of the site. You can count Moors Valley (10 minutes’ drive) among the options – the country park has lots of wooded trails and for those who’d rather take in a birds’ eye view, there’s a Go Ape obstacle course with zipwires.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Lovely spacious surroundings. We like that you can choose your own field and spot to pitch up. Clean facilities. Owners are very welcoming and helpful. We even booked an extra night to extend our stay! Would love to return in the future.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: The site owners were very friendly and the site was nice and clean. The shower block and toilets were al so I clean and they even switched the little heater on so it was warm in the morning. Showers were lovely and warm too. The site itself was basic as described but just what was needed really. Bins for your rubbish, water taps and being able to park next to your pitch was great, no hauling of things long distances. Close to good amenities for food shopping and essentials and not far at all from great walks and attractions.

Disliked: Couldn't do with washing up area/ separate sinks to wash up in. We took a foldable bucket to wash up in but some were washing in hand sinks.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We are in a good area, it is a simple campsite, but nice to come back to after a hectic day sightseeing in the local area. The washing up area, has been a main dislike in a lot of our reviews, we are already working to see if we can install this ready for next year.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Quiet and family friendly. We took the dog and let him off on the big enclosed play field at the back. Toilets were regularly cleaned and really lovely. Owners live on site and are very nice. The camp site is lovely. I would come again.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Small friendly site with very basic facilities

Disliked: No washing up sinks. No recycling, only general waste

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Our site is definitely is basic :) just fields and toilet/shower facilities. We are hoping to add a washing up sink ready for next year, as we have had previous feedback in relation to this. When we add it I will make sure to put it on our facebook page. The recycling is an issue, we tried this before, but general waste was put in the recycling bin, which caused us a few issues. We will have a rethink on that one and see what we can do.

Lovely site... The owners were so friendly, layout was great with the play…

Liked: Absolutely loved our stay at Little Hill Farm. Kids had so much space to run around and the facilities were very clean.

From the manager: I think kids love this place because of the space, they know they can play outside any time they want, and adults know they are safe within the campsite.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Very welcoming hosts at campsite. Family friendly site. Loved the choice of open space, with flat well drained fields to pitch our tent. Facilities were kept spotless and just what you need for a basic camping trip. Also liked the fact that we could bring our dog and exercise her in the playing field. Good location to explore the New Forest.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Glad you enjoyed your stay, our Bonnie dog is a bit confused at the moment with all these other dogs sharing (as she sees it) her field, lol. But we are only open 28 days of the year so I am sure she can manage.

Overall we had a very enjoyable stay, would definitely recommend.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Warm and clean facilities. Lovely welcome. Peaceful with lots of space for children to run around.

Disliked: Shower could have been hotter and spray went all over floor outside cubicle. Steps to shower/toilet block narrow and poorly lit at night.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Glad you enjoyed your stay, thank you for your comments it helps us understand where we need to improve, in relation to the showers, we were getting feedback that the showers were too hot especially for children, but we are happy to check them again today, I think because of what you are saying we will check them on a more regular basis. We will look into more lighting on the steps as well.

Local attractions

First up: the sea? Whether you’re zipwiring from the pier in Bournemouth (20 minutes’ drive), building sandcastles, strolling in the gardens or riding the land train, the town’s a good introduction to the south coast. Get even more acquainted with the coast in Milford on Sea (40 minutes), a New Forest sailing spot that's popular for its clifftop hikes, beaches and sailing trips. Don’t count out Poole (half an hour) either, which has an old town, museum and a harbour where you can board a boat to Brownsea Island to see its castle and walk along trails where you might spot red squirrels. If you don’t spot any wildlife there, not to worry, there are many more animals at Paultons Park Home of Peppa Pig World (half an hour) – yes, and the obvious Peppa Pig-themed rides too. Perhaps you want something that’ll get you moving some more… If so, New Forest Water Park (20 minutes) has an aqua park, wakeboarding, kayaking and paddleboarding activities. Also in the national park is the Blackwater Arboretum (half an hour), where there are splendid strolls past some of Britain’s oldest Douglas Fir trees.
